Two raccoons that won't be coming around here no more

Good for you! Sorry I used to like coons but don't anymore.
Same here. I liked them until I found the bodies of 2 of my girls in my pen. They were killed for sport, they weren't eaten. Then that coon tried to kill my rooster, and I caught him and ran him off. Diddnt have a firearm at the time.
For the record, my rooster is a total jerk. If anyone is gonna kill him, its gonna be me. Not a raccoon. :) But that raccoon isn't a concern anymore, however we still lock up the girls at night.

so i caught another coon in the hav-a-hart last night...

it rained all night, so the poor little b**tard was covered in mud. when i went out there to check the trap and the coon was laying on it's back motionless, with a giant open gash across it's belly. i looked at it, thought "wtf?" i kicked the trap, and the coon groggily woke up and looked at me, realized his predicament, and started growling...

i guess it got hung-up on a wire fence or something, but the open wound on it's belly looked mighty painful.

i had planned to take it out to the ranch to dispatch and dump it, but my trophy-wife (1st one) happened to go on a little walk around the neighborhood before i left. she ran into the animal-control lady who was picking up a trapped armadillo at someone else's house down the road a piece for disposal and the hot wife ask her if she'd take the coon.

she said she would on one condition....i had to hose the caked-on mud off the trap and the filthy coon before she'd deal with it.

i never realized how much fun hosing down a pent-up coon could be. all three of us stood there, grinning from ear to ear as i let water out of the spray nozzle. it was almost as satisfying as peeing on the campfire as you're breaking camp.

the nice lady took it and saved me the trouble, but she wouldn't let me have the dead axis deer in the back of her truck.

i post that story up because at some point someone, somewhere on one of these threads, asked what to do with a live, trapped coon.

calling local animal-control if you live in city limits is a free, quick, and easy option. keep it in mind.

My yard is fenced. I keep traps set 24/7 for any pest that comes in. Cannot afford to feed the wildlife.

Although we've caught raccoons in traps set up for foxes, I never worried too much about them as they seemed to be mostly creatures of the night when the chickens were locked up.
Then this spring I reset up my pond with some beautiful goldfish and plants.

The plants were pulled out. The water was muddied. The fountain was upset and dismantled and my fish were dead and dying. I found one fairly large beautiful fantail under a nearby bush half eaten.
Yep, coons. Now I need to go after them before I can restore fish to my pond. :barnie

It was only recently that I learned raccoons will go after koi fish in residential ponds. I was out buying some plants at our local nursery where they also sell koi, and I spoke with a woman who had recently lost two of her koi due to a raccoon. Prior to that, she had lost other fish to a bald eagle. We have quite a few bald eagles around here, but I had never even considered either of these predators with regard to attacking fish in people's residential ponds. It's surprising how hard it is to keep animals safe in your own yard.
