Tylan (Coryza?) question

In birds with Corzoa, treat with the Gallimyician or other meds for a week then vaccinate all birds. Wait 3 weeks then vaccinate again. Any bird still showing signs of the Corzoa are you carriers. Vaccinate all birds coming in to your flock. This is good if you are keeping chickens as pets...... there is still the possibility of other carriers though. Meds good for Corzoa besides stated above are Tylan 50 and LA200. Sulmet is also supposed to have an affect. Oxine is very helpful in stopping the spread of diseases. AtoZ Pet or Vet has it at the best price if you buy in bulk.

Your State Dept of Animal & Ag should be able to do a necropsy for a nominal fee. Here in Fl it is $30 for up to 3-4 birds. I have always found them very helpful.

Necropsy or culture and sensitivity tests are SO helpful! I live in KY and the University of Kentucky does a necropsy on a bird for $10. It's also $10 for a culture and sensitivity test from a mouth swab, and they give you the results in 48 hours.

Wow! I wish I could have gotten a necropsy done for $30 or less. Our state vet in SC said it would cost me $90! I just couldn't afford to do it after spending close to $150 on supplies to heal my flock. This was an expensive disease (and learning expense)!

IDK about a vaccine for Coryza, I've never dealt with it. I'm just going by what the state vet suggested, and we had done everything we could do and wwere getting NOWHERE fast. We have close to 300 birds at any given moment, and we sell to the public, so keeping birds that were going to infect the whole county wasn't something I was able to do . It also makes their egglaying diminshed GREATLY, and It was just best all around to start from scratch and learn to NEVER again bring in a live bird. We deal with NPIP certified only hatching eggs now. Once you've been through this once, it doesn't take long to never want to go through it again.

WOW!!! That's absolutely incredible!!

I feel so lucky to have that service so cheap! I wonder if other universities have something similar and maybe people just don't know about it? It took me a lot of digging to find out about our animal diagnostic lab. Or maybe we have it because of the horse industry here--one of the main things they do are million dollar race horses, but they also do pets and any other type of live stock. They are hardcore disease experts, lol. Ask someone there a question about coryza and you'll get an intense medical lesson!

That's exactly what happened to me. Now I am so incredibly paranoid. The only new birds I bring in are chicks, and even those are carefully isolated in the brooder for 6-8 weeks, and before taking them from a farm I have a good look around for any sickly birds. If someone mentions they buy at auctions it makes me want to run away and disinfect my shoes.

I would like to buy or trade hatching eggs, but even those scare me. I read that NPIP only tests for two illnesses, not MG or Coryza or any of those common things. MG and avian leukosis both are passed through eggs!
