Tylan needed can't afford vet cost UK

Really? In the US it would cost me $45 to walk in the door, at least $50 for fluids, then probably $25 for antibiotics.
Before they moved, there was a poultry partnership in my town. They were specialists. They only charged £20+vat per consultation plus whatever meds may be needed. My new vet only charges £15 per consultation. This is reduced because he doesn't specialise in poultry but will help where he can. The normal rate is £40. £70 is an outrageous amount.

That's an extortionate amount to see a vet! I think that they must think that either everyone has petplan insurance or the streets are paved with gold! At least you got her sorted. I have six ex battery hens and I'd say that when they start laying soft shelled eggs than they will finish laying soon. I've had mine a year and I only have one that lays occasionally. But they are such friendly hens, I'm not bothered about the eggs!
@Lilith_Luna how is your hen? Did you get some treatment?
Interesting.... & you’re right Martha has stopped laying but it’s not the reason I rescued them, I just want them to have a happy, healthy freeeeeee life in retirement... The vet bills are ridiculous here & that’s if you are lucky enough to have a vet that will examine a hen most haven’t a clue! That’s why this site is invaluable for knowledge & diy aid when your chicken is poorly x
