U.S. Flag RANT!!! and some info...

I keep meaning to ask my daughter's "Senior Chief" she's NJROTC... what should I do with my flag at night when I take it down...I'm currently just leaving it up day & night.. I don't want to be disrespectful.

And is it ok for ME to burn my worn & tattered flags, which I have folded properly on my bookshelves. Or should I turn them into someone for proper disposal?

I have WHAT in my yard? :

I thought the flag could be flown at night if it was illuminated?

I also have seen it carried in parades several times horizontally as the flag in question was huge.....

This was done as a gesture of respect - would this be considered disrespectful?

From what i know it can be flown at night with illumination. Two of my neighbors do it.

We have a local military place of honor in our town and they fly all of the US military flags there (POW, US Flag, State flag, Etc.) and the winds here are nearly everyday. Usually over 20mph once or twice a week... often gusting to 50mph. Those flags go through heck flying out here on the prairie, but I will say this. The minute they begin to look tattered or worn, they are replaced. This can't be cheap because they have to be replaced monthly, if not sooner. They are displayed with lights and all. Very honorable and it makes me emotional every time I drive by, knowing that someone cares enough to care for them the way they should be cared for. It's a time honored tradition too many people have turned into a marketing campaign and forgotten how to respect the flag. Thank you for posting these reminders. Hopefully people will think twice before sticking a flag on their car or draping it out their window haphazardly.

Dated "1942" They just didn't do that then.
at 0800 the flag was raised and at sundown it was retired.

Even ON BASE I have to stop people and "remind" them that EVERY DAY at 0800 we have "Colors" and they are to stop, salute, pay respect, or I'll take them back to their command and have them explain to their commander why they disrespect MY flag like that.
OOOOOOOH! I get burned up.......

You need to take it down if it's not illuminated by a "flag" light at night. I usually take my old flags to the local VA unit and they dispose of them properly.

Our flag flies day and night and it is illuminated. It is also replaced when necessary. The local VFW and the boy scouts have a wonderful retirement ceremony they do together to dispose of used flags.
