Ugh - how do I get it off her butt?

I trimmed my cochin.. she had poo on her butt.. no bleeding and I thought to myself .. ahh I did a great job.. not too close and she still had feathers.. bla bla bla.. the girls didnt think so.

They picked her butt.. Her she had NO feathers on her poor little bootie for a few days..

she is fine now.. but I think it is because they are sleeping in a few of their nest boxes.

One of my BSL girls has this (only ONE, for no reason at all

), her feathers just seem to collect the poop! We get around the problem by getting her onto my lap (she's not our friendliest chicken, and so needs to be placated with grapes / other treats) and then my dad has the lovely job of trimming off as many feathers as quickly as he can. Then we wash the remaining feathers down with a damp cloth.

It only needs doing once every few months or whatever, whenever we notice the feathers are getting pooped-up again
