UGH & UGH a craigslist ad

Quote:
It matters if that was the deal to begin with that if the kid did not keep grades up she'd have to get rid of the animal. I personally see nothing wrong with it, and don't believe it teaches the kid animals are disposable.

We have 3 hamsters, and to think that they are just disposable pets really gets to me. There are ads daily posted about free ones that kids have lost interest in, they stink, we dont like them, they keep us up at night etc... if some of these parents had just said no, or researced them then they wouldnt need homes for them.

do I think that all owners should keep them just because they have them, NO, I KNOW some are better off being rehomed (2 of ours are rehomes from Craigslist)

Cindi, I dont get that "tone" from the ad, I could be wrong and Lord forgive me if I am, but I just dont feel that tone......

I don't agree with that. Agreement or not.

Maybe that child doesn't have alot of friends & her hamsters a friend to her? What's getting rid of the hamster going to do? Upset the child.

I just don't think it's right.

Well from the ad it sounds more like an excuse to me. Mom just likely got tired of feeding Suzy's little pet. It happens very very often. Maybe they thought that would be a good reason

Maybe they don't realize it sounds completely ignorant and makes folks wonder if they have a screw loose

I dunno...I just don't find it offensive..not warm and fuzzy, but not offensive either. No TELLING what is REALLY going on there.

I keep writing an email to them, telling them I will take their "teaching lesson" for free but that i will not pay for it, but then I delete it. UGH I am such a sucker for animal in need........ ding dang it, there is also an ad for a free rabbit, a hamster with cage for $5 and another ad of 3 free gerbils with cage.

I have a zoo (look at my signature) we have a rescue Lab coming in on Saturday to stay with us for at least 2 months

She may or may not be upset. She may not even like the little bugger

Who knows? Still just sounds like a cop out. BUT if they made a deal like that I'm not saying it is right or wrong, just not a HUGE deal and I don't think that kids are dumb enough to believe something is disposable based on one incident either. I'm just not greatly offended by it. Its rather benign IMO. Parents don't get handbooks when they get a kid...sometimes we do stupid things but that doesn't make for a bad parent over one poor decision either. There just is not enough information here. Snap judgements are often wrong

I keep telling myself that I cant take them all on, there is a lab/great dane mix that is to be put to sleep tomorrow by heart prick if no rescue can commit, I will have 5 dogs come the weekend here, I dont have room for him, but its killing me to think of his huge body being put down because of another idiots mistake of breeding to make him. UGH

I think it teaches the child that if you dont take responsibility for your actions there are consequences (ie..dont keep your grades up or take care of the little one then we will find someone who can appreciate the fuzzy). It would be nice to know a little more of the story like cindiloohoo said.

from the name Aaron, I assumed it was Dad doing this.

I just dont see this as responsible parenting, (I have 2 daughters) and would NEVER do this as punishment to them.

actually Aaron can be male or female, this child will learn not to trust Adults, sad very sad
