UGH & UGH a craigslist ad

Kids do need to learn consequences. But the consequence should MATCH the action. Giving away someone's pet??? Way to make your kid hate you and hardly motivational. I think that parent is an idiot.

You are so sweet to want to help them all

It just can't be done by one person. It does tend to make you think everyone is just throwing them away too...get off Craigslist before ya go nutters!!

I guarantee you there is probably several other big hearted folks sitting there right now staring down the computer screen thinking the same things you are. There are lots of good folks out there that will likely take some if not ALL of these animals. It is a pity that we are so over populated with animals because of careless breeding practices, but people aren't always the smartest creatures. You are a very kind and loving pet owner and thank you for that!!! But, ya gotta get off CL or you'll have a whole menagerie of animals YOU are then going to eventually have to rehome! My DD would do the same thing IF I let her...so I stay OFF of there until I NEED something

from the name Aaron, I assumed it was Dad doing this.

I just dont see this as responsible parenting, (I have 2 daughters) and would NEVER do this as punishment to them.

actually Aaron can be male or female, this child will learn not to trust Adults, sad very sad

how does this teach a child not to trust adults? Assuming that the parent had told the child prior to getting the pet that grades and behavior had to be set to a certain standard. To me that teaches the child responsibility and that there are consequences for their actions, not mistrust. Though I do think its said for the animal.

how would you like to come home from school and you pet is gone? trust is broken very easily, even between parent and child, my parent did a similar to me as a child, I still don't fully trust her (i'm 47) consequences are necessary, but the loss of a pet that you will not be able to get back

I can see how this might teach a child a number of different things both good and bad....but that depends a lot on the child. This may be an 8 year old who has never had a pet before, or a 13 year old that is spoiled and has had several and let some of them die and is being irresponsible again and mom or dad is looking for a cop out before this one dies...we just don't know.

Parent could be being cruel or it could be the kid being cruel. That's what I meant about not enough information to make a judgement. Basics only here..we don't know circumstances and jumping to conclusions is too much work ....for me anyway

Didnt happen to me because my parents meant what they said, they'd warn me and if I didnt follow through I new what would happen. I happen to trust my parent immensely because I know they mean what they say and arent wishywashy about the rules. Oh and I'm 42. But we are making assumptions about the ad so who knows what the parent has said to their child.

Here, I fixed the ad.
I don't get why people post details in a CL ad of why they need to rehome a pet. They have to see all the crap in the pet section that gets posted in there. Post the pet, the details of said pet and how to contact you if interested. Done. Would likely cut down on a lot of the CL crap and they probably get less emails telling them how evil they are.
No, I don't send those emails, but I think it each time I see what I deem bad excuses "we are PCSing and can't take our dog with us" Really??? we PCSed from NY to Alaska with 2 large dogs and then from Alaska to AL with 3 large dogs. Takes a little more effort finding pet friendly hotel rooms and if you aren't buying... a pet friendly rental. If you are in the military, think before you get an animal - if you want to live in housing, consider the breed/animal restrictions and get something you can bring with you, you shouldn't ever have issues. Going overseas where there is a long quarantine, then well, maybe it might be better to rehome the pet.

I think that the lesson learned here is that Mommie is mean spirited & uncaring .

"If you don't make good grades I will take away what you love."

Ummmm....maybe it was the childs responsibility to feed and take care of the animal and the child is not? Why not rehome it instead of letting it starve? My kids have to get up in the morning and feed the dogs, then on the way to school we stop and feed the chickens and the horses. They know they dont get "sick days" from feeding the animals and that if they dont keep up their end of the bargain...and their grades and chores that things will change. My daughter threw a fit last weekend about getting a pair of rollerskates ( we dont have a place for her to skate, and all her time is spent working with horses as she wants to enter into the junior rodeo).....so I told her I will get her the skates but im gonna sell her horses....guess which she choose to have. Its all about making sure your kids are responsible.
