Yeah, it works as long as you don't mind the homemade look!

I think Edster951 gets runner up and bayouchica gets first place.

But I think that Chickenannie has to win a "best coop with no nails" award!

And Sunshine (ACK! the person with the horse trailer) needs to get "most beautiful and creative recycle with the least alteration" (since I know removing rust is a PITA, but she didn't have to cobble lots of little recycled wood pieces together, KWIM?)

Not sure who should get the "most beautiful and creative recycle using lots of little pieces cobbled together"

I LOVE Bayouchica's place. She even has chairs for the people to sit and hang out by the coop. The horse trailer is wonderful too. "Best retrofit of a Non-Coop Coop".

That looks like the Ultimate Bachelor Pad for roos (or a roo and hen pair). I'll have to keep that in mind when people ask for bachelor pad ideas.

Is it all chicken wire, though? That worries me a little...

Heres my ugly coop, I hope to have some extra time (don't know when) to paint and beautify it some. Here are some pictures when we built it. It is actually built on a skid so we can move it with our tractor.

We stuffed the walls with scrap pieces of insulations board, card board and feed bags..then put up paneling that we have removed from several house projects.

The shelves that the chickens are standing on are hinged and will be closed during winter months. They love roosting up there. We also need to finish the wall below them, that is where permanent egg boxes will be.

The coup is not in its permanent location now and so I have not built the run yet but plan on doing some type of hoop run or chain link. The cost is about $200, spent on lumber, insulation board for roof, and linoleum, reused stuff that we had. donna
