Uh, why does our BO pullet have a lump on her head!?

Yesterday, I picked up one of our BO's as she was out in the yard, and I noticed some of her feathers bumped up a little funny on her head. I lifted the feathers up and found a pea-sized lump on top of her head. What on earth would this be?

Abscess or insect bite? More than likely so.

Could it be an insect bite if it's hard?

Chicken, unlike people develop puss that turns in to a cottage cheese consistency, and can form a hard ball ie: bumblefoot where it turns into a hard "kernel". Try to warm compresses to see if helps, if not get someone with a strong stomach to take a syringe and a small needle to lance it and see what comes out.......
