Well i wanted to have more baby chicks one day so I did want a rooster. Im happy about that and I love the rooster call. With regards to the neighbours ... well, I hope all will be fine. There used to be a farm about half a mile away where there was a sound of a rooster. Not any more, but i was not aware of anyone complaining. Im curious as to my silkies now, apparently they are the hardest to tell, im guessing that two are girls and one is a boy. Now wheres these eggs lol. :pop

Haha, I'm the same about eggs...I've told myself not to get my hopes up till Spring but I still keep an eye out for any egg action lol actually, just this morning I went for an extra walk around because I've heard people talking about the 'happy egg song' and had no idea what they were on about but this morning one of the girls was making a very happy sounding racket i'd never heard before so I just had to check lol no sign of course :pop

On another note the 'chicks' crack me up. I go out for my morning run and get back to find them up on the log pile by the gate. It happens all the time but never when I'm not out in running gear! Am sure they're looking for me :lau

Any eggs yet?

That’s a really neat pic of your birds! Maybe they fancy a jog?

Haha not that I've found...it's a bit optimistic I think as they're 19 weeks today.

Have to admit I did some extra leaf raking under the hedge today just in case ;)

:pop It always seems to take forever for those eggs! It’s exciting though when you find them. I was like a crazy woman when I got my first ever polish egg. You would think I’d never seen an egg in my life! I has waited from May to the following January for it though

Im about 8/9 weeks behind chicknovice and probably i will be looking behind things too :jumpy lol. Ive heard about 20 weeks on when they start laying .. we are waiting for news :pop
Im just extending my run. I find myself going out every morning in my jamas and wellies to open their run into the extension run (the extension run isnt fox proof) So on top of the 2 sq metre space under the coop, im extending my main run it from 8ft x 3 ft to .... 8ft x 7ft (its pretty high so i can walk into it) Im hoping its suffiient space for my 4 bantams for now. Im going to have a ladder going to a higher shelf too. I am hoping that will be ideal for the winter and I will be covering the windy sides with tarp and plastic. I do let them free range for about quarter of an hour every day when im with them, but im wary about the cat at the moment. This is my first winter with my chicks i guess its fine. Im also putting a few inches of straw in their coop to insulate it.

Just finished extending the run, im going to cover it better for the winter and im going to put up some ledges/ roosts for them and will let them out by the side doors to free range when im about. ... oh maybe a small swing in there too !! lol
