UK Member Please Say HI

I've got the Speckled Barred 1x, Rhode Rock Nera 1x and Goldline 1x. I would like to get a blue egg layer but they are hideously expensive

Welcome to BYC! We won't need to give you naughty ideas, the chicken maths will work its wonders and you'll get those ideas all on your own! :gig

You say blue egg layers are hideously expensive....you can pick Cream Crested Legbars up for around £20 to £25....is that expensive? xxx

Definitely - my hens were 13 pounds each.

If you can find somewhere that has a good choice of POL hens, if they are hybrids, most are then ask for a columbine. They lay a pale blue or green egg. As with most hybrids, depending on where you go, they should cost 12-20 pounds.:)

Thats a nice mix. I have seen Araucana hatching eggs for sale in the past on `preloved`. not sure if that is what you are looking for, but apparently they are blue egg layers. :)

Looks very `botchy` but does the job. First winter for me keeping chickens. But I have peices of wood blocking the eastern side and they seem pretty cozy in the space under the coop. I keep on nippin in there with treats like like bits of pomegranate and to let them know im about lol. Maybe in the summer I might look into putting a proper roof on the run. Ohh and Mr Snowman too because we rarely get snow here i took full advantage of it lol.

It looks fine. So long as the snow doesn't drift in like mine. I got caught out and had to clear about 2 inch of snow out! Then I tarped it! I like the liberal use of duck tape! Where would we be without that! It's surprising how warm the hens seem to be at night , when I let mine out this morning it was warmer in the coop than my house!!! Where's the snow hen?!

Yes some snow did drift in, not sure from where, its surprising. But the chickens appear fine and ambling around the run at the moment, Still snowing here but lightly now, lets hope it will get better... if not then I will build another snowman lol
