Had to tarp the sides of the run. The snow came sidewards and left about an inch inside. Defrosted the waters twice already. Warm mash for tea. Hope everyone else is doing ok. Oh and co-op has no milk!!:(

I was expecting the main snow yesterday as the forecast for today was just showers. Hardly anything yesterday, just a covering. Harry enjoyed the sun though!

It has been pretty much like this all day. Some breaks but when it comes down, it comes down.

My little birds are hiding from it as it too has blown in! They did pop out for a drink and some food when the sun came out but as soon as it turned again they were straight back up the ramp!

Been out don’t how many times to defrost water and when I went to muck Harry out at lunchtime his water had frozen over in the stable! Been a long time since it’s done that.

This is a first for me! It does get cold but this is crazy. They have frozen a couple of times before but never this many times in one day! I've just bought the drinkers in cleaned them ready to put out in the morning and it is -4.5c already. I just covered a window vent as it is at head height for them. There is another vent higher up though. I have a few older hens and some that are not 100% so I'm worried some may not make this next week. I want to bring them all into my living room!

I bought some last year. Sadly it was too late to see how effective it was. I have a hen that has started snicking/sneezing a little today. She's eating and drinking fine but had a real wet yellow pooh all down my wife's leg! I'm now without a vet that can see chickens so I have to go by what I know and what is available over the counter.
My little joff has been a bit wheezy with his breathing I just put it down to a little cold he has but I also read about the yellow pooh which I saw some in my coop today. Im not sure if there is much we can do for colds, not even for us human beings. I guess its just a matter of making sure they have good food, ventilation and plenty of nice straw in teh coop. I do sometimes put a small pinch of vits i their water.

I covered two out of three of my vents loosely with tarpaulin so they still get some air but its a bit warmer for them,, after all its going to go something like minis Ten degrees isnt it. I think in this extreme weather that bit extra will maybe help them.

If your feeding layers pellets get a bowl and mix some up with hot water. Let it cool a bit and give it later in the afternoon. They'll love it and it's something a bit warmer for them. You can also mix some plain porridge oats in. Apple cider vinegar is good in their water. I put 20ml per litre in for a week once s month. It's best to try and stop the draughts in the coop but allow for ventilation. Chickens are normally quite good at keeping warm but it's not nice seeing them look cold. They are my little friends and I want to see them right! How is the weather in the valleys? :)

Thank you I shall certainly try youre suggestions with regards to their food. Weather here has been quite windy for the past half an hour. I know its going to get a lot colder over the next couple of days. I guess its a matter of keeping our eyes out and making sure our litle guys and gals are all doing ok.
