UK Member Please Say HI

Having read your other thread I agree it sounds like coccidiosis. I’ve only had mine for 2.5 weeks but mine got it this week so I’ve literally read everything I possibly could. I didn’t find much evidence of blood in poo being related to anything else other than shedding intestinal linings but that wouldn’t keep happening.
I was told to get baycox (it’s prescription only but I managed to find someone on Facebook who sold me some) and it’s better than coxoid as coxoid takes 6 days to work by which time they could be dead but baycox takes 2 days. I’m on day 2 of meds now and they seem ok.
But I think you have to take them off medicated feed to give them baycox.
They transfer it to each other through drinking water so you have to sterilise daily while they have it.
It takes a few days for symptoms to show, especially the blood in poop (I think that shows around day 7 or 8) so they must have had it when you got them.
They can deteriorate rapidly so if you can get baycox today that would be great.
Where do you live? I bought mine from someone in County Durham if that’s any good?
I’m so sorry it must be very stressful for you I hope they’re ok x

If you can’t get baycox someone on Facebook told me that Milton sterilising fluid is actually better and works quicker BUT I couldn’t find anything on the internet to back this up. She said 5ml per litre in their drinking water. I honestly don’t know if that would work but it’s easier to get hold of and maybe worth a try while you try to get proper meds?
I can’t see it doing any harm as it’s used to sterilise baby bottles and the instructions say don’t rinse the fluid off.

It’s freezing here! So jealous :p
Didn't you guys have a really hot may though?

That is interesting - let us knwo if you find out any more about that. I think it is basically bleach. I always rinsed it off adn in fact wouldn't use it with my kids after the first - went to steam sterilising - not that there was much I sterilised - wouldn't give them bottles either :lau

Sounds like from the other thread it could be coccidosis -can you get access to the meds for that quickly?
Yeah. I've got some for the pigeons. I can get it in straight away. I have a bit of an arsenal when it comes to lotions and potions but the only meds I've got are what was left over from past treatments. I don't have a vet now. Hopefully I'll see an improvement in a few days! Thanks for help. It just goes to show that it doesn't matter how long you have had chickens, something new always gets you from behind. I'd never really thought cocci with them having acs chick crumb. Fat lot of good that stuff is!

Yes we did, seems a long way off now! It’s supposed to be scorching next week fingers crossed!

Hmm I think it sounds a bit strange to be honest. I didn’t like the thought of it with my son so I steam sterilised too but this person on Facebook swears by it. I’ve googled and googled and can’t find anything about it for the treatment of coccidiosis so it could be a myth.
I’ve bought some though and I’m sterilising my waterer each day when I refresh their water and meds. Not leaving any in though.

Sorry if I came across as patronising @Chickencountryuk I’m so new so I don’t know how long people have been around here or what people already know etc. Talk about teaching your granny to suck eggs! Not that you’re my granny either lol (digs deeper hole)! :barnie

No. Sorry you weren't patronising at all. I'll take help and advice from anybody and anywhere! The thing is that I have treated cocci so many times, I can't believe I didn't see it when it was so glaringly obvious! Sometimes we look too deep for a problem or solution and we miss what's right infront of us! So a fresh pair of eyes and a clear head is always helpful. One thing with chickens is it can be a steep learning curve and for me I seem to go from one drama to another! You are learning and so am I. The main reason we're all here is to help each other in times of crisis and have a laugh and a joke when things are good.:)
