Hi Kim and GGBEAR

I do envy you your chicken décor stuff and the lovely thoughtful men who generously buy them for you.
Having said that, I have friends that buy me bee and horsey stuff and was given a beautiful framed picture of a cockerel done in pastels by my neighbour which I have on my kitchen wall, so I too am lucky.

Yes I now have postcode splashed right across rugs in 10 inch tall white emulsion figures so hopefully that will keep them safe. They were left to dry overnight so I will be heading up to put them on soon.

Oh goodness GG.... hope this baby turns out to be smaller than the last or at the very least no bigger! I would be demanding they take it out NOW if I was in your position! No wonder you are uncomfortable and apprehensive! Can't begin to imagine how you feel but you have my sympathies and respect!

Getting worryingly wet here now. Water standing 3 inches deep against the house wall but still below the damp course level at the moment. I have a spare pump in the garage if it gets too high. Drains and sewage treatment plant still working so far but really could do with a let up in the rain now. It's past a joke!

Wishing everyone well

Barbara

thanks for the reply,

the leghorns were raised as the only 'large' birds with around 8 bantams so should be ok. with the wather being a bit chilly today they have all been in their coop together with no funny noises as far as i could tell over lunch.

i took a bit of time to clean their coop too so they wandered outside, there was a small bit of pecking from one leghorn but they mostly seemed to just ignore eachother unless they crossed paths. The feathers i was worried about are broken about halfway up the quill and dont seem to have got any worse so fingers crossed it should all be fine.

with the weather here being fairly warm untill today hopefully i will get a few eggs from the leghorns to keep the wife happy before they stop laying (if they do stop laying)

With regards to them getting bored, i am trying my best to give them things to do so have out christmas tree as a sort of lean-to against an old hutch in their run for them to play around with, have also made a few suet cakes which so-far they havnt touched.

i will post some pictures later ref the feathers. hope you are all well, especially those of you up north

So here is a picture. The partridge one has feathers missing around her neck. The other is around her tail. (middle of her body in this photo)

On another note, all of them were very reluctant to exit their co-op today especially the pekins, hopefully this is because the weather was quite a bit colder today. And because i can, here is a picture of the two leghorns:

@philyc

From what I can see in your pics they don't look too bad. It really could be numerous thing, molt, over breeding, feather pecking and they could have had mites. So many things can cause feather loss but if they are eating and drinking and ok and are not looking or acting sick I would not be too worried. Just keep an eye on them for now and see what happens.

@rebrascora

Hi Barbara! Hope that water has stayed out? :fl That sounds pretty close :eek: Did you get the rugs on them ok? Harry has got his really thick one back on this morning as he was a bit nippy. You should see the state of the chicken print one!! I tell you the rain is getting beyond the joke now!! Everything is just damp, my coops my runs and even Harrys rugs that are on the rack feel damp to the touch. I too am sick to the back teeth of it now. I'm thinking it forecast something colder for next week too so the ice is going to be fun! NOT!!
Fingers crossed the big white post codes keeps the robbing bleeps away!!
Your cockerel sounds great that you have on the wall. I've not got chicken pics up but do have a few horsey ones here and there. I try not to have too many things up as they are just dust magnets and I don't like doing house work. Got a nice stirrup picture frame for Christmas too so hoping to get a good pic of Harry to go in there. Hope your well and keeping warm :D

@GGBEAR

Do you think they will induce you if the baby is massive when you have your next scan? Surely they won't make you carry on with a baby that large? The hospital got it all wrong when I was having Charlie. They told me about 6 pounds but when he popped out he was 8 pound 9oz. Needless to say all the new born stuff I had gotten did not fit for very long!! Hope you will let us know how you get on and of course pics when the baby arrives ;)
Have a lovely evening and get those feet up :hugs

Cheers for that. As long as it doesn't get worse it's all good.

GGBEAR;
Hope the scan goes well. If you're measuring large then make sure they measure properly. They mis measured my wife with our daughter who ended up being 9lbs13... Labour lasted 3 days :s

Thanks everyone but like I said with the last one I had to have these extra scans and the final one they said if I went full term she would be close to 11lbs,

@Yorkshirecoop the consultant has already spoken to me and said they will not intervene unless a problem arises I can't elect a saserion as they say there is no medical reason:-o this is all because of certain women that didn't want to push and didn't treat it like major surgery so we all suffer now!!!!!
So the count down is on

How's everyone doing? All good I hope and that everyone is dry and warm? Have had a couple of nice days here, no rain as such just a bit of a shower and we actually saw the sun!! :cool:
Couldn't believe it, it was like it had never been seen before!

All well here. Had a slight shower yesterday. Our dafodils are up and out, our fuscia has buds on and lots more things coming up in the garden!

Weather is meant to get colder and colder over the next week and our met office guys are saying that in the next few weeks the weather will be diabolical with a lot of snow and ice coming our way! Joy of joys.

I visited my parents for the first time in ages and its made me want to keep chickens again, do you lot think the incoming cold weather means I should hold off getting a small handful of birds and focus on other things for the time being?
