UK Member Please Say HI

Yes she is still laying and eating and drinking.
Have just segregated her again so I will watch her.
She seems to be in pain walking and her feet are hot.
She is sitting down all the time.
Yes she is panting too.

Have you checked the pads on her feet? Look for any cuts or grazes or anything abnormal.
Do you think she could be over weight? This could put a strain on her legs.

Yes she could be overweight ! She is a big bird.
No cuts or redness but she doesn't want to put weight on her left leg.

I have put her in our sick bay lol and I have given her water with cider vinegar and some natural yoghurt but no food.
I'll check her crop is empty in the morning

Is weight often a problem?

Hi all, I would have started a separate thread but I wanted to specifically ask the 'uk'ers, what do you keep in the first aid box? I have been reading some threads about being prepared for a chicken emergency with a basic kit and I think it's a good idea. I'd rather have something on hand and not have to wait to buy or order it. I picked up a wound spray from the feed store but they didn't have anything else in the treatment section except for mite dust, acv and garlic granules Any help appreciated, thanks

Ok, today got myself hydrogen peroxide 3% and betadine antiseptic solution. I would like to find a broad spectrum antibiotic to keep. I have seen Tylan mentioned in posts that people buy from the feedstore but here in the UK it needs to be prescribed by a vet. What alternative has anyone used?

I in general just use the basic things that are in our own first aid box and anything that may come in useful from the horse. I don't keep a chicken first aid box so to speak. I have the usual stuff like syringes for giving them wormer/vitamins, mite louse powder and spray. Other than that nothing else.
As for the antibiotics I'm afraid there is no alternative other than going to the vets. For me personally I draw the line at taking birds to the vets. If I can't sort things myself with what I have or can purchase they get a quick ending.

Do you think she could have strained injured a leg? Weight can play a factor in leg issues. This is most commonly seen in fast growing meat birds where the body weight increases rapidly and maximum weight gain happens. Often they grow so big their legs just can't bear the weight.

How is she today? Still panting?
