I'm pretty close too to Louth in Lincolnshire where the outbreak was. They still have the restrictions around that farm and no shows or bird auctions/sales are permitted at the moment.

I found wood chip/bark very useful for muddy areas :D

Hope everyone is coping ok with the restrictions

Is everyone ready for storm Barbara? @rebrascora guess it's weird having a storm named after yourself!

Trust Barbara to come when I've just bought a polytunnel ha ha. Better not put it up until after tomorrow if I want to keep it ha ha.

Going to be pretty gusty tomorrow! I've been round today and made sure my run covers are fastened on securely. They sure do flap in the wind :(

Hi Kim

Actually it's probably quite apt.....as my sister said, "This will give you a giggle......there is a large depression building in the Atlantic and it's going to hit us at Christmas and it's called Barbara!"....She knows how much I struggle with stress and depression at this time of year, so a depression called Barbara at Christmas is totally appropriate. Unfortunately it is stressing me more though, especially with the bird flu lockdown as the tarp that we put over my neighbour's run is threatening to lift off with the run attached. I've weighted it down with heavy timbers this morning but now worried that the weight of water and timbers will bring the structure down once the rain comes.
I will probably be having a little too much to drink tonight and turning the music up loud and singing at the top of my voice(not a pleasant experience for anyone within ear shot) and probably dancing too to drown out the sound of the wind. Otherwise I huddle in a corner and shake. The power of the wind just scares me....which is odd because I used to love it.
....So the party is at my house guys..... but bring ear defenders !!

Thankfully the rain hasn't arrived yet contrary to the forecast, so I've got on top of most of my chores. Unfortunately I managed to lose my bully leghorn out of the coop this morning whilst trying to catch her to move her, as she's just making a right nuisance of herself. She is now happily free ranging and there is not a thing I can do about it until tonight, but if I open the hen house at dusk she should go in. Of course I have wasted a whole load of time and energy trying to catch her before realising how futile it is. Can't wait for 6th Jan....please, please, PLEASE don't let them extend it!

Hope things are OK with you...well obviously not OK but you know what I mean. Have been thinking of you a lot but didn't want to intrude or appear nosey at such a difficult time.

@timon

Ordinarily, I've been putting down straw to soak up the filth (cardboard boxes opened out and flattened work well too and just break down into compost over time) but in this wind, either of those are just going to get blown about, so it may be a question of grin and bear it until the storm subsides. They will probably not come out of the coop much during the storm anyway..

@rebrascora

I'm sure your singing is not that bad Barbara :D With a few tippple's it also sounds like it could be fun! Even more fun as I've not had a drop since January! I may partake in a small tipple very soon though! If I were closer I would be round to cheer you up :hugs
I know you are not into "C" and this weather is just depressing in its self. We have just had howling winds and the rain was lashing down really hard :( It's all just wet, miserable and dank. Harry has got really stinky feet at the moment. I have taken to washing and scrubbing them out at the moment after he comes in to try and get them to dry out. It seems just picking them everyday is not enough.

I too am not feeling the "C" spirit at the moment, nana had a couple of good/better days but has gone back to going to down hill again :hit This is not quite how the nurse put it but "it's the nature of the beast" It is a bleeping beast though and you would not let an animal suffer like this. I'm trying my best for Charlie's sake and making the best of a bad situation. Please don't feel like you are intruding or being nosey :hugs You are such a dear friend Barbara and I appreciate it when you check on me as right now I need a poke with a big stick to get my backside into gear and get things out rather than bottling it up :hugs Thank you Barbara :hugs

Hope you will be ok tonight and that the worst of the weather has passed :fl Oh and that you have you got your leghorn back!

Catch you very soon Barbara!

Kim xxx
