UK Member Please Say HI

They done amazing!! I was expecting them to be loud and stressed but not a peep all night :) yeah we had it here too all day yesterday the ducks loved it the chickens not so much :lau

Excellent :clap
My chickens have not been impressed with the weather of late! Thankfully by the time the thunder and heavy rain arrived they were in bed so I quickly ran out and locked up!

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the chicken world! I'm in the South East and in the process of getting a run and coop sorted in hope to get 4hens. I'm with tried about red mite and the fact that when ever I mention I'm getting chickens people are very negative about it! They say they are a nightmare, smell and I'll get rats?
Any advice would be great!
Thanks
Laura

Welcome to the thread!
Not a nightmare at least not for me but there can be issues. That is just part of keeping of them though. Yes red mite are a pain and you need to keep on top of them.
Good house keeping of your coop and run and the smell should not be a problem. As for rats, even without chickens you are never more than 20 feet away from one. Being vigilante about storing food away from them and putting your feeders away at night really does help to keep them down.

Mike from NJ , USA here.. I just wanted to say Hello and welcome to BYC. I've found over the past four weeks its just easier to keep it to myself. I'm in a small urban community with limited property size 60' x 175', so it's slightly different. Those who learn about the flock will ask, and those of them who have asked; well that actually are curios. Those who don't ask, are the skeptics. Bless those little Betty's and there yummy little organic gifts!!! yes all my girls are named Betty! It's less confusing and there is no worry of favorites..

Hi Kirstie :welcome & the thread?
What birds do you keep at the moment?

Anyone on here keep ducks and chickens together? Mine grew up together and everytime I let the ducks out to roam and keep the chickens in (to small yet don't want the neighbors cats to get them!) the chickens go mad!! I was planning on moving the ducks to a separate house when they get to big but I don't know how the chickens will react

:) We currently have 4 lavender hens, 2 chicks, which I believe to be regular bantams, 1 fortnight old button quail, and a mixture of 24 cortinix / texas a&m eggs in the incubator due by the weekend, new to keeping birds, our house is already a small zoo as we have every other type of pet so decided why not give it a try to, 2 years on its turned out to be the most enjoyable experience yet, they have lovely little characters and murder every insect they find except ants which is fine, I don't really mind ants  so hoping to expand a little more over time
xXx
