UK Member Please Say HI

Oh I'm glad I didn't offend then! Shooting is big business round our neck of the woods too.
I've been following Pete55's Article on here mainly. Have temp at 37.3c, am weighing and adjusting humidity accordingly, am auto turning on a brinsea octagon20 and hand turning 180 3 times a day with misting and cooling once per day for 15 mins. Does that sound ok?
No idea if they'll hatch but they're still alive for the moment!
I checked with my friend he says it's the air pressure from a storm that "messes with them" apparently!
Time will tell I guess!

Certainly no offence taken here on the pheasant, shooting is high on the list of important things in our house! Not so much for me as I stick to chickens and horses but def for my son Charlie and his dad. Pigeons, crows, game, foxes, rabbits, rats, clays, targets...........

Sounds like you are doing great and I'm glad you have been using Pete's guide, I found it tremendously helpful.
Hope you have a great hatch :fl

I've never heard that before about the air pressure and it affecting eggs. Will do a bit of reading on that :highfive:

Yes my husband's the same. He's brought me everything from rabbits, to pheasants, to pidgeon to cook! I've discovered I'm not particularly good at cooking game but it doesn't seem to stop him! He's worse than a cat for giving me dead 'presents'!:lau

Thanks for the reassurance on the goose eggs. It's always nice to know you're on the right track!

And let me know what you find out! I'd love to prove an old farmer wrong! ;)

hey everyone I've not been on for a while been really busy man there been some changes to this site it just took me ages to get back on this thread it so.e.how lost alot of my saved things Oh well never mind I'm here now.
I'm very excited at the moment a my hen has been broody and sitting on 4 duck eggs 1 got checked out about 2 weeks ago so obviously there was something wrong with it but the others she really done a good job I never in a million years thought it would get to this stage but yesterday evening I went out to check on her and seen a small hole in egg and saw movement and a little noise i picked other 2 up and I'm sure I can hear noises inside so today I looked and the hole looks a tiny bit bigger but its beak is starting to poke out cannot believe she done it but now I don't want anything to happen so I'm going to move her in with me she really good she lets me pick her up etc I'm doing this because 1 I don't want the others to kill them or fight with her for that reason and I also don't wanna feed them all chick crumb.
is there anything I need to know regarding ducklings I've seen somewhere that u need.to buy unmedicated chick crumb?
will they need any help getting out?
how long does this egg cracking mlarky take?
btw she been sat on them now around 27 days all replies greatly received

Hi and Welcome back! Sorry it was tricky but I'm glad you made it!
I'm not a duck keeper myself tho hope to be one day!

I know the take longer than chickens to actually get out of the egg so I don't think you need to panic just yet. As for food I've no idea!

Maybe go on to the Duck Forum thread for some specific advice? Here's a link in case you need it

Keep us posted tho on their progress, it's fantastic you have a hen hatching ducks!!
:clap

It may just be resting but often as with waterfowl they need more moisture to be able to get through the shell. Hens can and do successfully hatch ducklings though so don't lose hope yet. A hen can't replicate a mother duck coming back to the nest and being wet. This is why waterfowl tend to need misting during incubation.

@GGBEAR you could try and start a zip for this ducking and see what is happening in there. If you see blood though stop straight away as it is not ready to hatch. Ducklings can take a while to hatch often more than the 24 hours so as said it may just be taking its time.

As for feed, yes they need unmedicated chick crumb. Waterfowl can't deal with the Amprolium they add to medicated to try and combat coccidiosis.
Waterfowl also need some brewers yeast in their water or feed to combat niacin deficiency.

Good luck!
