UK Member Please Say HI

I think my birds are fine but I hatched some runner eggs off eBay and my friend had the ducklings and she got ill so I've been thinking maybe they have something. I've been reading up and there's something called campylobacter which is a type of food poisoning but you can catch it from poultry etc.

Could be but can you catch it from eggs? I know the main cause of this is usually from the meat but you can catch it from infected live birds. I'm just not sure on eggs though?

@rebrascora

Hi Barbara :frow
I hope you are all doing well up there and everyone is ok?
Look what I have "harvested" from a rather large field this evening! :clap

I popped up this afternoon but the "Pea man" was there inspecting his crop  I took this is a sure sign they would be vining them soon so thought I best get back before they all went! Hope you have got plenty of riding in this week and I can get lots of flags out for you!

I think the mothers can pass it down to their young. I'm not sure though  I've been totally fine with my lot I just thought it would be to do with the two ducklings I hatched as we've all been ill. Oh well I'm not sure all I do know is I never want to have it again!! I've never been so ill :sick

Hi Kim,
See my PM re my very sad weekend.
Naughty you scrumping peas! I picked my first pea pod yesterday, but only 6 plants germinated and grew from a row of over 100, probably nearer 200, so I am probably not even going to manage a boiling from such a small crop.... I can still enjoy them as an occasional treat when I am working in the garden though and no worries about an angry farmer catching me!

Hope you have a lovely weekend and perhaps get out on Harry again.

Regards

Barbara

How's everyone doing in this heat?

I knew it was going to be warm but was not expecting this!!!!!!!! Forecast says even hotter for tomorrow! :th

It's been much cooler here the past week, there was only 1 day that was blazing, and they all spent their day under the hedgerow/trees covered in their dust bath !!

I gave my squailies a few mists of water throughout the day as all panting pretty bad
:(
That would've been a good idea :th

Well, out of 7set eggs, looks like 6 will make it to lockdown - 1 was clear at day 14... I've had some trouble with regulating humidity - it's been so hot & humid here I've only put water in a few times. Candling and checking air sac growth has been exciting !! Looks like 6 eggs developing really well.
Lockdown is Monday... my first ever hatch :fl

Good luck!! My polish eggs have been a disaster they all died in lockdown 3 fully absorbed and 3 with a little bit left. Hopefully you have better luck and take pics when they hatch.

Oh no ! I'm sorry to hear it.
Are polish any harder than other breeds?

I've got a recent Cream Legbar rooster, and have 2 ex Battery hen eggs, 2 black sex link, 1 cream Legbar and 1 I don't know which hen it came from !!
I'm pretty sure we didn't just have an earthquake, and I hear the eggs rattling occasionally - hopefully means chicks are looking to get out.
:pop
Perhaps I should not put the incubator in my office - hardly likely to get much done the next 3 days!!
:caf

I'm not sure I had no problems with my other hatch I thought maybe the hot weather caused it. Oh sounds like something's happening!! Have they peeped? Yeah you won't be getting anything done I always find myself glued to the inc :lau
