UK Member Please Say HI

Is he doing funny/odd head movements? Maybe something like this video ~

Hi thanks for that video YC I dont think Joffrey is like that I shall watch him again tomorrow, he seems to be more clawing and pecking at the ground. I have bought some dried mealworms today shall try them on him tomorrow to see if is a protein thing. I do give them some sunflower hearts which has vit E and selenim. Maybe I can try to video his antics... maybe its just that he is a frustrated guy.

Is he trying to dust bath?

Aw no help really but do you think he could be having a bit of a teenage stage? Maybe he doesn't quite know what he wants? He's not looking sad or poorly in himself at all? Have to hope some of thise silkies are ladies for him ;)
Aye its like he doesnt quite know what he wants, definatley he is frustrated about something. Im still not sure about the silkies too whether they are male or female lol but they are all coming on to be about 17 weeks old now. So i guess its a teenage time for them.

I did at one point put sand in a cat litter tray (clean) for them but they tried eating it so i put it away lol. I am pretty vigilant about dusting their coop etc. Hmm I
Maybe? Have you checked him for lice, especially in his crest? Can they get in to some dry muck/dirt to dust bath?

I also have some red mite dust powder that can be put on them, so I shall try that tomorrow and see also if i can video him. thanks YC thats one thing I have not considered. :D

You can usually see lice around their vent area. Eggs are like grey clusters on the feather shafts. I use this spot on for lice control ~ https://www.viovet.co.uk/Harkers_Harka-Mectin/c10572/
I wouldn’t worry about then eating the sand, it’s what they would do in the wild pecking through it. I have boxes with dry top soil and play sand in them. Keeps them entertained and pests down to an extent. These are especially helpful when the garden is wet and they can’t get to their usual bathing spots.

Hey YC thats brill advise I shall check Joffreys feathers tomorrow in depth and see if there is something that looks like what you desccribe. I have just purchased what you recommend. I thought even if it doesnt sort joffrey out, it would be a useful thing for my guys. The garden has been very wet and damp lately, poor lads have never had a proper experience of a dust bath. Thanks for all your help everyone. I shall keep you updated. :D

Here is a video (if it works) of Joffreys typical frustration.
Ive given him a bath and put some red mite powder https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wells-Poultry-Equipment-Mite-Powder/dp/B001RUCQ86 on him for now and ive also introduced them to mealworms. I have also just 5 mins ago put in a dry sand bath for them. I can still hear him crowing lol. Lets hope something has helped him for now.
I couldnt see any mites or anything but maybe they could be very small.
