I know just what you mean, a nightmare :barnie
Mine too is a constant battle with them. Yes the creosote worked but it just moved them to different areas. I’m still spraying the coop at least every other day if not everyday when I spot them. You just have to keep batting on, I’m throwing all I can at them! I’m on the verge though of binning the coop!
I'll let you know how the whitewash works. I'm at my wits end now! It's like 'Call of duty, Mite edition '! Chickens seem fine though. Someone also said that paraffin painted on also works.

Thank God I don't have to contend with them, ticks are bad enough. The ticks don't bother the chickens but both dogs have now been infected with Lyme disease - vet bills $$$, even I got a dose :(.
The wet, humid climate encourages them like mad..
You should get some guineas. Thankfully I don't get ticks in with mine. There was a thread a while back from someone who had lymes disease from ticks. It was devastating.

Yay rain, boo hot temps. Got my coop delivered today before the heavy rain but managed to get a side for the run put together before the second round of rain. Can't wait til Monday to have another crack at putting the next side together and maybe even give the coop a quick painting.

Oh no poor pooches & you :( I can just imagine the $$$
Thankfully ticks are not too much of a problem here but the poor ferret Tonic ended up with one in each ear :hmm It was tight squeeze trying to get in there to remove them as the ears were small and the ticks had gorged. Plus the ferret was being a ferret & ferreting about!

:clap Great start! Has your coop got some ventilation at the top?

Excellent, come winter it will certainly be needed. Looking forward to seeing you finished set up :)

Thanks, I've been really excited for this for ages. Hopefully it'll be up and running by Saturday but it might get knocked back if anything major goes wrong.

Today has been manic, left Amble for Darlington to pick up two Silkies that were supposed to stay at my dad's in his unused broody pen. The house they came from was really grim, glad I rescued them (2 pullets -£5 each).

The black one is a lot younger and I'm sure the white one is older, it's going to be just my luck they turn out to be boys. I got them back to Durham where it just wasn't going to work so I carted them back up the A1 with me.

The wife wasn't happy but she helped me cobble together an emergency run Which is fantastic. Going to buy wormer tomorrow since they don't seem the best of health. The white one has no feathers on her bellyish area and a really crappy backside.

Got a friend coming over tomorrow to help me sort out the full run, but we might just let the wife do it again since she did such a good job last time.
My car now smells like poo but it's worth it.
