UK Member Please Say HI

Happy new year everyone! I hope you have a lovely 2019!

I haven't had notifications again hence me disappearing! Been busy here the last month too - I organised our village Christmas market, and had a stall first weekend of December then my little one had a high temp for 6 days, and I flew to the UK for my brothers wedding on the 15th, then home to only a week to get everything sorted for Christmas! It has been crazy!

Update on Hermione, she was so determined to sit so I cleaned out the broody coop and moved her in there. Temps really dropped around the same time and have been around freezing overnight. I noticed the next day that she had abandoned all but 2 of the eggs. Then a couple of days later she abandoned the other 2 as well. I opened them and most were fertile and develped a tiny bit, one was a bit further on than the others:

My theory is that in the little coop (which has just a thin plastic base) that she wasnt' able to keep it warm enough. I left it all open and she has happily gone back to the main coop nad no longer being broody so hoping she'll hold off again now until the spring!

Welcome

Awwww I'm sorry to hear that.

She is gorgeous, best of luck getting her poor leg sorted out.
Aww. That's so sad to see that egg. :(Hopefully when the weather improves she can sit again and have some little fuzzies!

I just lost the first of my ex batts. :( she hasn't been a picture of health for a while but has been eating and drinking fine. Flora lost alot of weight and I struggled trying to get her to put any back on. We found her yesterday on her side in the run. We bought her in and put her next to the radiator with some yoghurt and fresh water. Sadly she died today. Under closer inspection I think she had a tumour, her underside was really hard and painful to touch. Bless her soul. She had her last 15 months being free and being a hen.
Only just seen this as I no longer get notifications. I am so sorry for your loss, its never easy but for what its worth, at least she had her last 15 months free and not only this, she got to know what it is to be wanted, loved and cared for. My condolences to you and your family for your loss :hugs

I rescued/kidnapped a chicken from a friend yesterday. I was moving reindeer for them when I went to look at her chickens. There was a little bantam that was struggling to walk so I caught it to have a look. Turns out she had a baseball sized mud/poo ball stuck to her foot. It was solid and took some removing. I asked if I could take her and they let me. Anyway she had a warm soak in Epsom salts and she is in a cage in my living room now. She can't walk on the foot but is in good health otherwise. She is a little sweet heart. I think she is a mille fleur cochin bantam. Meet speckle!

Poorly foot. :(

I'm going to give her another clean later. I just hope she will start to regain use of it. She pick it right up every time she stands up. I think she is still compensating for the weight of the mud ball.
She's beautiful! A real cutie.
Thank goodness you rescued her! I hope all goes well with her foot and health.

Same here, I no longer get notifications either and have no idea why.
Sorry about your eggs, hopefully she'll do better next time :fl

You guys are quiet!

Was it someone on this thread that suggested putting a little piece of wood to stop my plastic tub I have as a nesting box (at the moment) from tipping? If it was thank you - I've done it and it is fabulous and works really well!

It even twists up to make it easy! Double bonus was a pre drilled piece from the Ikea futons that the rest of the coop is made of :lau

Brilliant idea! Works really well ( love the colour of the bowl too)

Think I’m still recovering from Christmas & New Year!
I'm hearing you! Took me a while too - didn't help that new years day was a bigger party than the night before - ended up with drinks and games afternoon followed by a fire pit with sausages and far too much wine :lau:lau . We are doing 'Dry January' for the sake of our livers!

If I can get something I need in pink or purple I do :lau

Christmas just did me in :sick Not had a drink for 6 months until the weekend before Christmas! We went out the Saturday, Sunday & eve I had a few tins after cleaning all day. Christmas Day I started way too early and drank till goodness knows what time. Needless to say I was a wreck on Boxing Day! Then I caught the man flu that had been going through the house. New year was a right off as I was tucked up in bed at 10pm with my Kleenex, Lemsip & Vicks vapour rub! Just today I’ve started feeling something like and back to a normal routine.
