UK Member Please Say HI

We're in the Cotswolds. Currently fighting a red mite explosion that happened during the heatwave when I was on holiday. It must've been brewing and I missed the signs. They're even in the house! one on me in bed last night. Let me know your favourite UK products if you've experienced the same. I have 7 Marans (blue, copper and cuckoo), 3 barbu d'uccle, 1 modern game, 1 apenzeller, 2 ex batts. Yesterday hatched a silkie x cuckoo marans and an ex batt x marans mongrels xx

Hi! Mites sure a real pain! Unfortunately it has to be an ongoing war with them! I use Nettex total mite kill in my coops. You do have to be regular with it though as more and more hatch until you have them under control. I take bedding out and spray the coops every 3 days to try and break their life cycle. You need to get in every nook and cranny as you can because they hide well. Because they don’t actually live on the birds and only come out to feed on a night time from the birds a lot will get unnoticed. Good luck with your battle but with patience you will be able to get them under control.

Hi I’m from Manchester, I’m Joanne, hope everyone is well

Hi & welcome to the thread Joanne! Other side of Pennines for me in Yorkshire! Good here thank you, what birds do you keep?

I have quail chicks I’m new to this it’s my 12year old autistic son who wanted to hatch them, so we have two 4 week old coturnix quails and 1 California and 3 blue scale there 5 days old. We had a massive ordeal with this last hatch only 8/14 eggs were fertile, 2 pipped the wrong end early and died, 2 died about 2 days from hatch day and the last 4 the power went of for hours during hatch. The last 4 were so tired and shrink wrapped after 2 days trying to get out I had to intervene I couldn’t bare the thought of leaving them to die.
So after hours of watching videos and about 10 straight hour of chipping bits of shell of each egg in turns of 5 mins we have a 4 beautiful babies
