They're very pretty, I love the colours on them!
I've just put them all together today. There was a couple of squabbles but nothing major. Pictures don't do them justice. When the sun is on them they shine!

Are you sure it's Redmire? That picture looks like a tick. I've had an ongoing redmite problem for the past two years. I used you total mite and it was OK. It just wasn't as residual as I'd have hoped. I also use ivermectin drops on them. I finally managed to about get rid of them using allmite powder. It's essentially DE so please don't tell the mite specialists, I'll get boo hooed! It did work for me.

That's what my Mam said, however they're super super small! There's more than one there which is making me believe they are red mite.

Strangely though my hen, despite sitting on eggs is still in good health as usual.

I'm guessing it's the babies, but some are so small they look like those little red spiders we get over here, except they aren't spiders, they're just smaller versions of the one I took the photo of. It's so hard to get a zoomed in photo with them being so small :barnie

We also have a big tub of DE based powder (I can't remember the name) but we've never used it. Not for any reason it just hasn't been used.

I mean, i rather them be ticks than red mite as they are easier to treat, I'll try and get better photos if I find more tomorrow!

Wow they all look great!

I can just imagine what their colours will be like in the sunlight. It'll be similar to our Purple Glossy Starlings, in the shade they look really dull but in the light they shine and look so pretty.

How many pigeons do you have?

I have 16 racing pigeons, 7 fantails and 4 archangels. The archangel colours are bronze necked black wing. The black is called beetle black I think that's why it's more a green colour!

We have gained a silkie cockeral and a Warren hen at the stables. A friend called last night to say 6 chickens had been dumped in her garden. Sadly 4 were killed by a fix before they could be caught. Fortunately these two are now safe but it upsets me that some people can be so irresponsible and cruel.

That's quite a few pigeons, I do like the colour of those one s though, they look a similar colour to the likes of the emerald beetle which would make sense!

Aw no that is irresponsible, just dumping them knowing that foxes will most likely take advantage and that they would not be able to fend for themselves. At least two made it though, poor birds. How does their health seem in general?

Hopefully they're alright :fl

So guys, look who popped in for a sleep over in my broody pen...

With the weather being wet and humid at the moment, they're loving it. I've caught them early and started treating the hutch.

The chicks just hatched so they've been removed out of harms way. My hen will have to remain there for a week or so during ongoing treatment. I can't risk her bringing them into my main coop.

My mite eradicating goodies...

Have any of you used anything else or would you recommend anything extra?

I've dealt with a case of lice quite a while back in our free range flock but never red mites.
Looks like a tick to me too. Nasty little buggers! Still, they are easier to get rid of than mites..

They were unfortunately red mite!

So I lost my temper with the hutches...they're now on fire after a meeting with our blowtorch

The last egg that was left under the hen sadly didn't hatch. My poor girl got of the nest and it got chilled in the egg. I broke it open incase it was alive but sadly not.

I called to a local pigeon and poultry supplier and he told me to use a pigeon lift wash to dip my chickens in. I've done that and gave the chicks and mother a good wash, powder and spot on.

Red mite are an absolute nightmare. I nearly burned my coops but the shed I was going to replace them with I made into a pigeon loft! Whatever treatment you do repeat it in about five days and replace all the bedding regularly. Now it's getting colder any mite infestation should subside. Just watch out in spring, that's when any will return that you don't eradicate.

They really are a pain!

Either way, I believe the treatment for poultry ticks and red mite is pretty much the same and most treatments work for both.

Each of my coops will be cleaned out extensively every few days and sprayed and powdered everyday to prevent or keep on top of anything that's there.

Thankyou for the advice, I think I've got this issue at the 'best' time of year with it being colder.
