UK Member Please Say HI

How far along are you? We started ours 1 year ago last week, finished in October 😁

They started Easter weekend. Slab is down, wall is out and oak frame is up. They are supposed to be doing the roof this week but looking at the weather I'm not so sure. They said around 6 weeks but it will depend on how long it takes for the glass and doors. It's only a small extension so hopefully it will move along quickly.

It feels like a mistake at the moment, but we're also putting in a new kitchen at the same time so we might have to move in with the chooks!

Hopefully you'll get over that phase quickly, there definitely was a time when my husband and I were regretting starting it!

Morning everyone. Please could someone advise.
I hatched out 4 Bresse eggs last week Wednesday in my brinsea incubator. 1chick was trying to come out for a while. She pipped first, unzipped herself half way and then stopped for 24 hours. I could not intervene as the other chicks had pipped but not unzipped.
In the mean time all other three chicks hatched out. This is now 30 hours since first chick had been in the half zipped egg.
I intervened and helped her to unzipp. I realised that she had got stuck in her leg as there was going stuff stuck to her and the membrane of the egg. I helped her and put her back in the incubator. 24 hours later I realised that something was not right with her. I later found out online that she had a slipped tendon on her left leg, her claws were bunched and the leg was splayed. She has been crying non-stop for five days.
I have tried to sleep attend and back it’s normal location but it sleeps out. I have bandaged it to help into into position. I’ve been doing physiotherapy with her. I created a wheelchair for her and tried to leave her in there but she was not having any of it I only managed to leave her in there for about five hours. I bandaged her toes straight to help her step on it and created a vet wrap to bring her leg closer to the other and help her learn to walk properly. Also I’ve been giving her vitamin B12 in her water . It’s been four days now of trying various things and I wonder what else I can do to help her. please can someone advise?

In my experience, if they have curled toes after 5 days then they won't mend themselves.
Personally I would out it out of its misery but I understand that most people are kinder than I am.

Good luck.

I would probably agree after this amount of time... Although I am a real softy, I'd be too concerned about causing it any more pain.

It's horrible, please make it stop.
Yeah I’ve had enough of it now too! Had to get my water proofs back out and the horses have got their winter rugs back on :hmm
I'm from Cambridgeshire, I have a Cream Legbar show cockerel and 13 hybrids (a Bluebelle, some Welsummer hybrids, 5 ex-battery hens, a speckled Swedish type) and am currently incubating my first batch of eggs from them. Just heard a peep from one egg! Due tomorrow 😊
Ooh good luck with your hatch :fl
Yes - were having an extension done and the builder took the lounge wall out last week. Needless to say the wind / rain was blowing in the wrong direction for the last couple of days!

Chooks hate it as well (the wind and rain, not my extension!)
Wow hope things go well and it’s not too much of a hassle with no wall!

I agree with previous posters that after 5 days it maybe time to think about letting it go. Always extremely difficult and I’ve had to do it myself so know how you feel. From your post you have certainly tried everything that you can to give it the best chance.

It's ok, they have now covered the 14 foot wide hole with what can only be described as a shower curtain. Much better!

They are doing a good job actually - just unfortunate that the layout of our house currently has us sat in the room next door with no doors, etc between us! At least they are on the building bit rather than the demolishing bit so that's exciting.

Weather looks good for the next few days ....

Ooh how the wind has been here I’m not sure a shower curtain would have sufficed  On the home stretch if they are now building.....

Would like a bit of sun again now but just seen the forecast for the weekend and Saturday looks horrible here again :(

I have rang about 30+ places (local vets and st David’s poultry ) and also messaged about 10 different hatcheries.
I can’t get the day old vaccine against mareks Newcastle disease etc for my soon to hatch chicks.

I am in Staffordshire UK. I am willing to travel

I’m hatching out silkies and keen to get them vaccinated. I have 13 eggs.
I can’t find anyone that wants to know
