I've been busy 'winterising' the coops and run. I have a roll of hessian that I have cable tied to the outside. It should keep the wind at bay and although not waterproof it will stop the rain from coming straight through the mesh and keep any ftist from freezing the water drinkers. I still need to do the doors but already it feels alot better inside.

They're looking good, at least it will keep the freezing drafts we get at bay and off your birds.

I'm on with covering mine with PVC sheeting on one side.

I have a pvc tarp on the pigeon loft. It's open at the front so I'll have to see how it goes for them. At least they're not on the floor like the chickens. Year before last I left the front of the chicken run open and it snowed during the day whilst I was at work. I came home to a snowdrift inside the run! Luckily last year we barely had a frost but I've heard this year may be a bad one.
How do you keep all the other birds that you have? Don't you have different types of parrots and exotics?

That's true, when they aren't directly on the floor it's not too bad if a little bit of snows gets in.

Oh wow, I'm guessing this year you are covering all the sides so you don't end up with another snow drift?

I have a feeling we'll get a bad winter this year, we had little flurries of snow already just a couple of days ago!

Yes we do! We've had a bit of a change around but the Turacos get a type of cladding (I think?) covering one end of their aviaries so that half is closed off but they remain outside all year round. All the aviaries have a solid roof and back anyways.

The starlings are getting blocked in with a clear cladding so they still get some light. The rollers come into an indoor aviary which can be heated.

The Kookaburra has an aviary in the garage which leads to two openings, I believe we are going to cover one of them.

We've still got some more sheets to get!

Sounds like you still have plenty to do! I can't believe you have a kookaburra! You must have good neighbours!

Yep, lots of work!

It makes you question why you have them at times but then you remember how dull it was before without them.

Oh he's surprisingly quiet throughout the day! He only really makes the noise if you bang, feed him or start making the noise to get him to do it. I do admit though, when he does make the noise, it's pretty loud. People must think we've got a monkey in our garage or something...

Guys I'm bug paranoid now :barnie

If I see a little black fly or something I'm straight at it with bug spray...

Even the spiders got it last night :hmm

Think I'm over thinking it a little...

Well good news.....sort of! The 4 chickens that we thought had been got by the fox have returned. DW and her friend caught one but the other three are very wary and scarpered as soon as anyone went near. I'm going there tonight to try and catch them. But...the stables don't want anymore chickens so the one we have caught is in a cage in my garage at the moment, she now has a name, caramel. Looks like she is staying :th. She's a young Warren pullet.
