I got a baby silkie chick yesterday and it loves to peck at his own butt. LOL
I noticed today that it has what I believe to be an umbilical cord stub. Poor thing has no butt feathers left. It pecked at its butt so much last night.

What do I do?

are you sure that it's the stump and not a bit of poop stuck onthe back feathers? They will often peck if they get a bit of dry poop or pasty vent. In any case I'd take a warm cloth or paper towel and hold it on the baby's hind end for half a minute or so. Softly clean the bare area. Dry the little one's butt area gently and put a tiny bit of vasaline on there. That should help with any irritation and if it's poop it will help it not to stick. T
