umbilical cord?

so I while cleaning a pasted up chick, I noticed some other stuck poop which I proceeded to wash with a damp paper towel.. it came off but it looked like a bit of red skin oozed out, and stayed there, there was no blood... ???

as soon as I put the chick back one of them pecked at it so I put the chick in its own box for now.. not sure what to do..

guess I'll know for next time not to do that.

any ideas on what I should do or not?

Get a red light bulb. Even walmart sells them as party lights. There are also some other ways people have covered or painted bulbs red. The red makes blood and spots show up less than white light and they won't peck at it.

already running a red bulb. ill put her back in when i turn off the white overhead for 'night' time.
