This is very rare but it does happen in chickens. It can start out as a hen laying eggs but has both sex organs. After molting it will no longer lay eggs but will crow and fertilize your hens as a new rooster.

It is an act of dominance and has nothing at all to do with what we humans know as sexuality.

A hen high in the pecking order will do that any hen lower in the pecking order to keep them inline and show them who is the boss.

It happens in all species of animals and is a dominance/submission tactic and nothing more.
