The guy has been messing with us for 3 years and dh had been so good. Go figure. That's a whole 'nother story. What a world we live in.

Its good that people like your husband are around, most folks don't care anymore. Maine used to be about helping your neighbor, if the cow was loose, you put it in the barn with a bucket of water and called later in the day to see if they found it. Or a note, "hope its your bovine". If a dog was loose, you knew whos it was, called it in or hooked it until you knew they got home.
We don't even know our neighbors, due to safety reasons we have given up our freedom to help a neighbor or watch what direction a child goes in as it takes a village to raise, help and support each other.

Nah, with the price of gas and lack of a babysitter (6 kids) I am staying put. Maybe I will go next time if it further south in the state.

No matter why they refused to allow him to help, if I was the person drowning, I sure wouldnt look down from the afterlife and say, "Well, yeah, I'm dead now, but at least they followed the rules!". Seriously, I know it was probably a recovery operation rather than rescue at that point, but I sure would want everyone who had any way to help to do so if it was me or my loved one in trouble. This is certainly a CYA society we live in.

That is so sad and true Cyn...

At this point in 3 days the body'll come floating up...

I knew someone who committed suicide by ocean...just went in and didn't come up...I saw his orange tarp covered body on the marsh a few days later when I was driving home.​

You know, more and more law enforcement hurries up and waits for the "body to float". Its so true, that is what law enforcement has said at one point in a particular case. Oh, nature will do the job for us. Grrrrr. They don't even think of the family waiting for a phone call, waiting and going out of their minds. Sooo sad isn't it.

Small world. I've been following this story on the news, we live in Maine as well, have a house on a lake so we've talked about this sad story. We have 6 kids as well. Mine are 6 years old up to 18. Well they found him, right where my parents told them they saw them messing around. I guess my parents were the closest thing to a witness they had. They removed him at my parents (the boat launch my parents have on their property was put in by the fire dept, my parents gave the town access to the lake through their property so if there is a fire on our street there is a hydrant to hook up to). I had gone down to their house to visit with the baby and my dad was watching them and told me they found him. He was right, warden came in shortly after and confirmed it. This whole thing is sad, even more so since it could have been prevented.

They haven't whenever we have been called out to help them. Our dogs are trained to locate human remains in water, so we use them to pinpoint where the body is and then the police send the divers in. Even in a few square feet it is very difficult for them to locate a body and bring in to the surface due to the moss and currents below the surface. Usually the body does surface naturally, but it doesn't mean we don't try.

One of our teammate's dogs was alerting repeatedly in one spot on a search, but as much as the police searched they could not find the man's body. His boat had been crashed into by another boat and he had been thrown overboard. It took a over a year to surface in that exact spot.
