Unconfined dogs and the damage they can do

ABSOLUTELY AGREED. But the people who let their sweet Fido out with no fence or leash, because he is different, and has proven himself trustworthy, blah, blah, blah, will never, ever understand this concept until it's too late. These are usually the people (like the ones on my street) who say, "IF my dog causes a problem, I WILL take responsibility." As if that makes it OK, and they don't have to follow the same rules as the rest of us or exercise common courtesy. ARRRRGH. :thun

Lynn, I am so sorry your mother got hurt and had to deal with this. I have to say, though--WOW, you come from strong stock, there! Bless her heart.

Coons. Some of my first and best memories was coon huntin with my uncle when I was just a little boy. And my little B&T had a bawl mouth if I've ever heard one! She'd of been a very good one, she already was gettin there. And what's worse, she chose me. My buddy Dave had some pups a while back and I went to look at 'em, and while I was settin under the tree talkin to him, that pretty little girl crawled in my lap and went to sleep (she was 8 weeks at the time,) so I had to get her. She slept draped over my forehead almost every night (the only animal I usually let in the house) and went everywhere with me, and if I'da kept her in with me like I should have, I'd stilll have her (she was my favorite, obviously!) Yeah, she was a good one alright!

And that bay is a right pretty sound on a still night! I have this one Redbone who has the deepest bay I've ever heard, and it carries like no other. Makes ya crazy just thinkin about it, dont it? LOL!

hey, ugly cowboy, ( no offense intended)
my grandpa chased coons with his pack of hounds
and on a clear night, with a full moon lighting up the world, nothing was as sweet, or as comforing as that sound.
By the way, when I was a child, one of his hounds mauled me, amd left puncture wounds in my skull, trying to get a biscuit I had. My grandmother screamed & my pa took his gun right then & killed that dog dead in the yard. He said good huntingt dog, stupid to try to bite my little girl. dead dog now.
The dogs were locked up from then on.

Oh My Goddess!!!
I can't imagine how I'd feel if I saw a person getting shredded by a pack of dogs...especially if it was someone I knew!!!Your poor mother...jeeze...I hope she'll make a full recovery and the dogs won't...
Wylie, glad your ijit going to jail...most times they don't...
Here's one that made headlines a few years ago:

These people were arrogant along with being twisted.

Here's my opinion on dogs, you can take it or leave it.
If it's on leash and being walked by it's owner, it's a pet.
If it's running loose in my yard and chasing my pets, it's a predator and will dealt with as such.

Dang! I gotta say, I aint never had a coonhound do that! I'da shot him to! Yeah I got a big pen (and I mean a BIG pen) I keep my hounds in, I just didnt have her in the same pen as my other ones that night (I dont know why I didnt, guess I'm losin it...) She was penned, just not with the others. But anyway, that is strange about that hound, they usually aint that mean to folks it seems! What kind was he? I've heard brindle Mountain View Curs can be pretty mean...

Country dogs suck. Period. Every single one of them where I live runs around like they own every hillside. Their owners refuse to actually take care of them. A few have tried to get to my chickens, but they didn't succeed (thank you hardware cloth!).

I am not a free roaming dog fan.

And yet another "my pit bulls the sweetest and would never........" S. O. B. !!!
I stand by my earlier comment on another post regarding PB's. The only good one is one that has been properly SSS'd.
We don't allow people to breed and keep Grizzly Bears, so why these vicous dogs??? Oh, and the guy who was allowed to have Grizzly Bears, is dead too. At least he wasn't stupid enough to say his bear "never would".

Man, I hope your mother recovers quickly and the responsible SOB rots in jail!!!

Thank you all for the kind posts and prayers for my mother. She is an amazing woman. She is healed up and going about her business with never a complaint. I often talk about my mother in conversations with others. They ask "your mother is still alive?" , because I'm not exactly young any more. My reply is "of course she is she's only 20 years older than I am".
