Unemployment almost 10% nationally

Don't think you'll ever see even the small businesses get any real help. The only people getting money are the corporations and the politicians. Our industrial base is gone. Hardly anything is made here anymore. Even if you boycott the big box stores all you end up doing is buying the same product at a smaller store for a higher price. The corporations have their arms too far up the politicians behinds. The only chance we had (albeit a very small chance) is gone now. It's going to take a lot more than an election to get DC to do what the people want. All we ever get to choose from are people that are tied to corporations or people that talk about cutting taxes. The people that want to cut taxes have no idea where to cut them other than to kick people without anything in to the gutter.

What a mess.

The only thing to save us now is a depression beyond imagination. A total cleansing to get the rot out. It looks like with the election results we are taking steps in that direction.

Stock up on food and ammo, once people who are completely abandoned by society and get desperate, crime is going to go up through the roof. The conservatives will not be able to build prisons fast enough to house them all..
I do find it "funny" they are willing to pay for $100+ a night prison cells but not help someone out with health care, unemployment, or education...

I certainly HOPE we do not go into a depression. Some news were saying we might be heading for a double recession period.

Better make a good grocery list if that is the case and stock up for hard times ahead.

Well I don't know where you got your numbers and you don't mention where they came from but to put $1.8 billion in perspective ... 3 days in Iraq.

Or NOT extend benefits but cut taxes AND spending across the board, thereby allowing the economy to function and repair itself properly.

Of course, that's WAY too easy. Gotta fix it with tax money!

As usual, I agree with Q9.

As hard it is to swallow, raising taxes would be the thing to get us out of debt. Cutting back on military areas that is not active would be another. Freeze bonus pay or cost of living expenses, pork barrel projects would be another. Changing from private flying to commercial flying for politicians but I am sure the president can cut back somewhere rather than flying that gas guzzling Boering plane (Air Force One) and cut back on his foreign trips to a minimum, no need to fly to India unless it is so extremely important.

Anyways I did not watch all of Obama's speech the other day what he was going to revise his promises he made during campaign and what changes he is going to make now.

Well I found your source.
From Washington Post;
"Rep. Michele Bachmann claim, for example, that President Obama's upcoming trip to India will cost "$200 million per day." Asked on CNN where she got that number, Bachmann attributed the figure to unnamed press reports."

And you believed it??

200 million per day for a trip to India? Give yourself more credit than that. That's exactly what I'm talking about. Wherever you got that info from. Delete the sight or don't ever listen to them again.

I am very confused with these outragous #s as well? I mean really? I don't know anyone else who pays 50% of their income to taxes every year either. And why when making 75k a year would you cash out of your 401k with penalty?

Do you watch Suze Orman????

P.s. - If you read something that seems outragous, it probably is, don't spread rumor as fact... there is a wonderful website called snopes. They help correct misinformation. HEre's the info on that $200m a day junk. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/india.asp Remember, like ANY president, he is there representing the US... He is not there for tea.

Ewe,
In no way could I swallow more taxes on the ailing middle class/working class!!!!!
I see the level of income disparity as the problem.
IMO plenty of other ways to raise money (Like your suggestions) and folks to tax in the growing upper income bracket. The problems is the disparity between what executives make and what the workers make.

I am a living example. If I did not have my executive years with a high income I would not be able to survive now, with what I saved. My spouse and I both make about $10 an hour working a little less than full time. (Hard to get full time jobs these days, companies do not want to pay benefits. so they keep people at under 40 hours a week..) (I am self employed so I am at the will of what the market will bear for what produce.)

I am saying if we did not have zero debt we would be falling behind at our income level with two boys ages 4 and 7.. We buy used cloths off ebay, my truck is a 99, we grow a significant portion of our food and yet we live month to month with our income even though we have zero debt.

On India. It is probably, a good idea to maintain and nurture good relationships with a fellow Nuclear power, and a country with one of the biggest work forces in the world. A President of the United States of America, one who is responsible for the "Red phone" aught to be protected and travel with security.... Plenty of places to cut spending other than compromising the security of the President of the United Sates of America....

If her lips are moving she's lying. Thanks for the clarification.
