Unemployment almost 10% nationally

They need to tax things coming into the USA from China. That would help US a great deal in several ways. First, it would level the playing field more in our favor. You would see more things being made HERE vs China. By producing more things here, it would create more business and more jobs on our soil. Second, it would also help pay off our debt to China. If we did this, our debt would be paid off in a year.

I could not agree more.
I ask everyone to buy "Made In The USA" during the holiday season. Ask your retailer where the "Made In America" products are. Tell the kids it will be a lean Christmas because there are few "Made In America" products.
Time to send congress the message ... "We Want Our Jobs Back"!

Ah, just thought I'd mention it

The Chinese, though they probably won't do it, have hinted (2009) that they might declare all the derivatives they are currently holding as being worthless (not our debt - just the Over The Counter crud), their doing so would probably make the 2008 crash and burn look like a garden party. If they invaded Taiwan tomorrow I doubt we'd do much about it (highly unlikely they'd use the leverage afforded by our lack of oversight of the markets and indebtedness - but that fact that they could is aggravating).

However, out to plant the last of the bulbs and retire the skunk in the trap. Here's something that I hope will you'll find humorous (cows and a chicken): http://www.extremelysmart.com/humor/cowsexplain.php

China did sell a lot of our debt to Japan. Since they don't like Japan, I don't think they were trying to do them a favor.

Royd,

As was pointed out, humans are naturally greedy, and, may I add, naturally lazy. The food would get eaten, and they would go back to the easy chair or the street corner.

Sadly, value, in today's society, is measured by how many green pieces of paper you have in your pocket, or how many of the same, you think your house is worth

I am sorry you have such a negative opinion...

We do agree on human nature is greedy..
big_smile.png

I am not so sure about lazy.. Yes indeed I do believe your scenario would play out in those cities...
sad.png
But not because of innate lazy nature, but because of depression... A sense of hopelessness, a sense that every one is out to screw you anyway.. Desperation... The same thing that leads to crime.. UTTER disgusted with the world around you.
It is my opinion the very methods and measures you support are the breeding ground for this problem.. People wanting hand outs, no self confidence no dreams no hope... THIS is what leads to laziness.. I believe human nature is to compete to excel, to please.. NOT to give up.. That is caused by society..

And that is exactly what societies, which have the heavy hand of govt. controlling them does....If you want to discourage innovation and industriousness, just put a bunch of regulations and fees in place, who's only purpose is to punish someone's pocketbook, before they ever get the doors of their business open....Case in point. At one time, if I wanted to do any kind of general maintainance/ home repair work in a neighboring county, I just went down and bought a simple liscense, for a minimal fee...Now, you have to fork over almost $400 and take a three day course, just to legally change a lightbulb, in someone else's house, if you want to get paid for it....Sorry, but govt. has become onerous, arbitrary and heavy handed, and the only reason is to support the useless beaureaucracy.

The truth is, govt. has created this whole depressed mentallity state, which sits on the front porch, with its hand out, waiting for the next welfare check....Govt. loves dependent, needy constituents and hates free thinkers and independent people.

Social engineering is done by evil people, with an ulterior motive....If you want people to be free to pursue their dreams, stay out of their way...It's just not that hard to understand.

That would include forcing people to think a certain way about energy production, and demeaning those who just don't buy into the great utopian dream, until they either succumb or just keep their mouths shut...Thank God, the slats have been kicked out from under the Global Warming/ Cap and Trade agenda.

Hey Royd!
I finally understand your viewpoint... Not that I agree with the approach but I see it.
smile.png
So therefor can respect it..
(Yep I can be a little slow at times..

)

Indeed a plausible conclusion... Innate human greed, and ulterior motive are always a factor, so therefor it is best to not have others messing with your life...

However, I only see groups sticking this out as a carrot on a string for further manipulation and advantage taking of the citizens..

So, now you're the one with the glass half empty attitude.

Here the thing. Righteous people can self govern. I have a problem with lots of stupid little things, which are designed, only, to take our money. On a Sunday morning, at 6 am, there is absolutely no need to have to obey a 35 mph speed limit sign, through a commercial area, just because there happens to be a school nearby. When you have to live in fear, every minute of everyday,of the the boogeyman, IE. The Po Po, The Man, nabbing you for $80, just because some beaureaucrats decided that that's all the faster you can drive through this given area, then, things need to change.

Of course, I believe the biggest hindrance to personal freedom, is our system of taxation, which demands to know the details of your life, and can arbitrarilly change, for the worse, at a moment's notice.
With the monstrosity of our tax code, no person is safe from confiscation of their property and freedom, at the whim of the govt.

I have a friend who ended up with huge penalties and fines, over a couple of quarterly tax payments that weren't paid on time, over 4 years ago, even though the tax was paid at the end of the year..There is something seriously wrong with a system that even develops those sorts of heavy handed techniques.

Luckily, as we have just recently observed, We The People, in this country, have the ability to strike back and make the govt. walk on eggshells, as they make us do, on a daily basis.....So, my question to you is, Do you want to be free, or do you want to be taken care of? Therein, lies the crux of it all.

You're right about all that Royd. Problem is that the people didn't change anything in this election. They just gave more ammunition to the people that are actually running us further in to the ditch. We're all seeing a lot of local increases. The public has said no to their local governments on added taxes. So instead of increasing sales tax by 1/10th of a cent they have to triple speeding tickets and quadruple fees for permits to build and inspection fess and fines of any kind. A speeding ticket in my town for 15 over is now 235.00. Instead of raising taxes a little to get badly needed road repairs the local county was willing to get a 16 million dollar loan with a payback of 80 million dollars. We voted it down of course. We'll just live with the washed out roads and potholes.

All the so called grass roots TP candidates lost for the most part. The ones that did get in by and far were Republicans wrapped in TP. The only thing that is going to happen now is more taxes for the middle class and more tax breaks for the rich. Elections have consequences and America is about to find out what happens when they pay attention to the screamers instead of what's really going on.

No real reason to argue about it though. I think we can all agree that the policies that have evolved since Reagan don't work. A lot of bad mistakes have been made by all of our politicians. Unfortunately I don't see it changing. The American people are on their own and their government isn't helping much. All I ask is that they do what they can to keep jobs here. If we have jobs we don't need their help on anything else.

The sad thing is, most of this money is not going to any actual project, which benefits the average citizen...It is used to support a paper pushing beaureaucracy. They may as well just all set their desks in a circle and pass the paper to each other....Here's a solution. They could play musical desks, until they are down to one person.

So, do you look upon the Tea Party with derision, or do you recognize it as a potential force for change? The way I see it, it was bound to happen, sooner or later. It just so happened that the stars aligned, at this point and time, and the current POTUS just happened to be the unlucky recipient of an already seething cauldron of discontent.
It is not a fad, and the politicians know it, regardless of their off the shoulder retoric.

Actually, if the people were on their own, we wouldn't be in this mess.
