Unexpected Father's Day Gift (Help!)

I wouldn't give my chicks cracked corn, just an all flock or chick starter feed. They need grit too, all of the birds.

We already gave them all the chick starter we had! Lol. This is just a temporary setup so we can get them a more permanent home tommorow.

It doesn't seem like it in the photos, but they have a dust bath and also access to grit.

And why not on the cracked corn for the chicks? We have fed chicks cracked corn before and had no problems. We don't feed it very often to our growing chickies, but we have to get more starter and grower tommorow.

Cracked corn has about 8% protein if they fill up on that then they won't get the 18% protein feed they need to grow and be healthy. Like filling up on potato chips, it's not going to kill you but you aren't going to feel so great either.

At least the cattle panel is keeping them safe. That is a big win!

Some seem to need electrolytes or Corid but others seem to be happily recovering from rough circumstances.

Yes, there are both boys and girls.

This is just a temporary area for them to live in. It is our "sick bay" for our other chooks. The wire is mostly to keep the chickens in, as they are placed in the middle of a metal dog pen. There is a connected to the right and left sides of their pen.

My mom has been wishing for more hens, so hopefully not too many of those babies are roosters!

A family friend showed up at 8am this morning and gifted my dad with a 'fun' father's day gift. We now have 2 goats, 4 adult chickens (3 hens and a roo), and 45+ quail chicks, chicks, and a turkey poult.
 That's crazy and rather idiotic...unless it was approved behinds the scene beforehand. Hopefully the 'gift' doesn't include pests and disease.
Did you already have goats?

but still posed a lot of problems for me and my family.
No Doubt.....How did your dad feel about it?

I have no idea how to determine the sex of the quail, but they are seeming to get along just fine. We managed to separate the adults and quail from the others.

Tommorow we will have to dig out some more cages to separate the older chicks from the smaller ones.

With the quail legs problem, she can get to her feet sometimes, but she falls over when she tries to walk. She can't really move it, so I think it is dislocated.

I pumped all of the new fluff babies with electrolytes and probiotics. And you will not believe how much those babies stuffed their crops! (Who knows when they ate last)
Usually male quails are more colourful but since you said their getting along you might not need this informations. Males tend to be more fiesty. And poor chicks!

Nope, we have never had goats before. The smallest of the 2 goats we had to do emergency doctoring today. He had maggots living inbetween his toes. The goats are so skinny. And the smallest one doesn't move very often.

Our dad is livid. Unfortunately, he is having to deal with my crying mother (she is distraught bc of how sick the new babies are) and having to put out money to buy things for these new animals (feeders/waters/leads for the goats, adding onto the coop to hold the new chickens)

Needless to say, these friends are no longer friends anymore. They gave us sick animals they didn't want to take care of.

6 chicks have died today. We have lost so many since they were given to us.

Also, come to find out, these (smaller) chicks were from a hatchery order of over 120 chicks and when they started dying off, they gave them to us.

I was able to separate the quails from everyone. Can they eat the chick starter? Or do I need to get different feed for them? I've been feeding them squash sliced in half and they eat that. I also gave them chick starter and they enjoyed it. I crushed up layer pellets and gave it to them, and they seemed to eat that too.

Never had quail before either! So kinda having to do quick learning as we go.

We got the chicks dirt today and grit. They are having a blast.

The hens they gave us laid some eggs, but they broke as we tried to collect them. Their shells were very thin and porous. Not sure if because of stress or if they were not fed anything with calcium.
