Unexpected hatching - help!

One of the photos I saw when I was looking up what a pukeko is showed one carrying a headless bird off that looked a bit like a chicken to me. How big do they get?
I looked it up. They grow to roughly 20 or so inches and around 2 pounds. They eat mostly swamp vegetation along with insects, small birds, and eggs. Doesn't sound like they could carry a chicken!

Good news: it hatched on its own! Sitting in the bator now to dry. I think the coconut oil was the critical thing here. Sadly I missed the hatch and I only saw it for about ten minutes before I had to go to work. Pictures will follow!

I have never used any kind of oil with difficult hatches. I have misted the eggs and used water to soften the membrane.
I'm old. I'm easily distracted. I'm forgetful. Sometimes, I'm simply unable to stay awake any longer as we, both the unborn chick and I, have been awake ALL day and night trying to get the little one hatched. Those long hours aren't good for the old ticker when you get to be my age.
The touch of oil trick has been a life saver (for the chick), and sanity saver for me. The oil makes the membrane completely see-through, helping me determine both the condition of the chick AND how rapidly (or not) that the veins are thinning out. It helps me make critical decisions on how to proceed should the hatching continue to be fraught with misadventure.
