Unexpected visitors...Like, or don't like?

Wow......I am surprised by all the people who don't like drop ins. I love company, love drop ins and as far as the house, dogs or whatever, I don't care. if they drop in, they get what they get. My DH hates company, I am a more-the-merrier. He always wants to call and set an appointment to go see somebody, I just want to drop in. He calls it rude, I call it Southern Hospitality.

I agree with your husband. It is VERY rude, impolite and an invasion of a person's privacy to drop in on someone without calling first to ask them if it is okay to go over. My parents always taught us to call before we go to visit someone. It is an invasion of their privacy to just "show up". I HATE unexpected visitors. If I am home enjoying my day and relaxing and perhaps watching a movie and someone knocks on the door, my irritation level SPIKES. I am immediately ticked off. That person has just ruined my day. I work with people ALL DAY LONG, so when I get home, that is my time and I don't want anyone to interrupt that. Many of my days have been ruined by people just "dropping in". :/

Not only that but they can wreck your sex life LOL!
Mother in law was good for Saturday morning phone calls when we were first married I worked 2nd and my wife worked 1st. Her phone calls lasted a good half hour and my wife was sheepish to say mom were busy. I had to get the phone one morning and let her know her daughter was indisposed. She used to invite herself along for anything. When we moved out to the sticks and she got her car off the icy driveway things were better. Now she is re married so that helped allot.
I would rather have about 4 weeks notice for visitors. At the very least, I have to machete a path to the door! And the dogs have to be confined, the cats hide in a panic for days..... my house is anything BUT tidy and clean at all times. Same for me and DH. Chicken poop, ya know!

When I was younger, no problem. Door's open, come on in! Now, I really discourage it, especially with family.

I have discovered a handy trick - I have a wireless headset phone- and when someone rings the dratted bell, I put on the headset, mouth to them "Business call, not a good time to visit". And then I shut the door and go back to the computer. The door has a glass insert, no way to pretend I'm not home. Hate that door, but dang, it's mahoghany with beveled, leaded glass!
Yep that's our yard chop a path to go where you want.
I'm with you, Ranchie! I don't even like expected visitors and I LOATHE unexpected drop ins.
I'm an anti-social hermit that loves my little piece of solitude back in the woods.
I think this web site is full of hermits, huge shock! When I think better of dogs than most people, what else needs to be said
