Unexpected visitors...Like, or don't like?

I'm really surprised that more people aren't open to unannounced visitors. Not that there any thing wrong in thinking it's rude or not liking it, I just thought it would be at least split 50/50!

I love my unannounced visitors so much (prepare to cringe) that at our house you don't even need to knock! Everyone knows they can just come on in (though most still knock anyway).

I really do enjoy having the house that's always got somethin going on. I couldn't imagine sitting around and watching t.v. All day. I need the company.

(no not saying you guys sit around watching tv all day, just saying I don't have very many chores around here so sometimes I find myself with nothing to do)

LOL, and ruin your "all over tan"

Can't stand people just showing up. Usually they only do it once around here, 4 large dogs come charging at them serves a pretty good reminder to call first.

I am sure there are plenty of people who would go naked in their backyards, nothing wrong with that if you are in the middle of nowhere. Visitors should have called ahead.

Sometimes I wonder about folks having an "open door policy" and one day they would end up having someone stealing their stuff in broad daylights. That would shut the policy down really fast and mis-trust would go around. What works in the old times that we all experience is not the times of today. People are losing jobs, so its easy to target those who are lax in their open door policy. I live in the city so it's a no go for me LOL!

I don't mind drop-in visitors. It does sometimes put a cog in a the day, but its important to be there for people. If my house is a mess, I just hope they are there to see me and not my house haha which is usually the case. if someone is in the area it pleases me they'd want to see me(I don't mind drop-ins at dinner either, usually I have some sort of side that can cook up real quick to help stretch the main dish to cover the unexpected)

I would rather have about 4 weeks notice for visitors. At the very least, I have to machete a path to the door! And the dogs have to be confined, the cats hide in a panic for days..... my house is anything BUT tidy and clean at all times. Same for me and DH. Chicken poop, ya know!

When I was younger, no problem. Door's open, come on in! Now, I really discourage it, especially with family.

I have discovered a handy trick - I have a wireless headset phone- and when someone rings the dratted bell, I put on the headset, mouth to them "Business call, not a good time to visit". And then I shut the door and go back to the computer. The door has a glass insert, no way to pretend I'm not home. Hate that door, but dang, it's mahoghany with beveled, leaded glass!

I'm with you, Ranchie! I don't even like expected visitors and I LOATHE unexpected drop ins.
I'm an anti-social hermit that loves my little piece of solitude back in the woods.

I am not big about anyone. My father-in-law's newest wife is a nurse, so he is over here more then home. It drives me nuts. I am also a perfectionist and a nutcase, if my house is not hospital quality then I always feel like people will judge me.

Frankly, I don't like visitors: therefore, unexpected visitors are an especially unpleasant occurence. Just call me a hermit.

I'd be happy with just the Princess and me on a desert island.
