Hello, i can really use some advice.
My niece found a wounded chicken at her place. She brought it to our neighbours and my uncle.
He's only having geese. They wanted to attack it so we took her.
She has a nasty head wound. Since silkie Fluffy is still grieving about Fien we thought since she seems to me a cochin kriel that she can make a possible friend. Not sure what attacked our newest pack member but it was a head wound... Is it safe to spray some isobetadine on it? Will post a picture tomorrow... We put her for the night in the barn but im worried the others will attack so Will go check at 5 am... Will post a picture tomorrow. I know she can be a carrier of diseases. But she is incredible Tame. Eats out of hand, very sweet sound but very anxious since the geese of my uncle also chased her... Any advice how to let things work or introduce? And how to treat her wound? Am afraid if she gets one scratch at it she might die or become disabled... Please help me out on this one, she was just to sweet and arrived just when fluffy needed a friend. Found fluffy the day before sobbing after Fien at night. She was so sad she layed her neck on my shoulder, had to pet her to sleep... She hasn't forgotten my lovely Fien but my heart aches her grief is as dieply as mine still is. Perhaps these two can get along.
Any advice welcome

Could you post any pictures of the hen and the head wound? Have you searched and check her for any puncture wounds or injuries elsewhere? Betadine is fine to use, or chlorhexidene. I would check her for the pressence of any mites or lice, and possibly worm her, so that she doesn’t introduce anything bad to your other chicken. Normally we wait at least 30 days of quarantine to introduce a new bird to our flock in case of any symptoms of any disease, but she will need to at least be kept separate in a cage or pen until her wounds are healing. Where are you located? It can help when when we recommend certain products to use.

In Belgium but working in the medical sector so also having access to English compendiums. Tyvm for your reply. I Will post the pictures tomorrow. Then i will follow your advice for checking her completely. I didnt want to put her alone since she's gone to too much... Talking seems to soothe her. Is it an idea to let her quarantine together with Fluffy? We named her Bieke. I was hoping they would feel comfortable. I might not may carry her to a vet. Would love to but it's not up to me. She has a red crest. Surprised nobody at my nieces house ever came asking since she aint living with my uncle. She asked around with her neighbours but nobody could Tell. If it's up to me she's a keeper. Parents are less enthousiast because she might be another Breeding machine lol. But they both did melt for her and fall for her. It must be something that went to the head while attacking

Since they both are only chickens, I might go ahead and skip the quarantine period, but it is always a risk that the other one might get exposed to something. It sounds like she is a good hen, and hopefully the two will get along once the cochin’s wound has healed a bit. I’m glad that she has you to give a good home.

Thank you. Going to sleep again for 2h, it's now 6am, been busy from 5 wiring a small area Martel fence of 1.5 m high inside the sleeping minihouse (they are living in a cement build made mini house made of bricks and with 2 wooden real Windows from the 50's.) We isolated the roof so it's always a Nice temp inside and filled the air holes with stuff so no Martel can interfere and placed An automatic chicken guard door. In case any marter or bunzing it will be taped on a nightcamera and the ladies have to stay inside. Fluffy reacties Well when i got her out of her sleep, the Harco bleudelandes and Mechelse koekoek were agitated. I double placed the wire so the Big ones cannot get to her. Will post a picture in a couple of hours, too sleepy now cause of a rough night nrem parasomnia. Then we Will be giving her a full check-up. Only thing that is bothering me , actually there are 2 things: such a sweet calm lovely human Loving and gentle chicken ... Why did no/-one came for her in the area my niece is living few km away, also nobody reported there was one missing but at the head wound she was stolen by pred.... If it were Fien back then or now Koen Fluffy Mouse or Goldy -and now Bieke- , i would even put up posters, launch a fb Page or contact shelters which nobody did.... Would even search night and day for such a friendly one or one of my old flocks members... The only thing im worried about is dad wants her to be friends with his chicken sigh which is a vermin towards Fien back then and current days on Fluffy.. then theres that head wound, or it is just blood and wound or a bit can be necrotic.... What to do in case it's necrotic?

This is our new Bieke. Seems very stressed around the other ones when one approaches. Fluffy is willing to get to know her but Koen and the leader are holding her away from Bieke...

With the position of the head wound, Bieke may have been injured by a mean rooster. That is where they will grab hold or peck if the hen refuses to mate. Usually those wounds heal in time if they are not too deep. Her comb appears dry in the first picture, and she may not be laying at present. Her lower back feathers are a little rough, so she may be starting to molt. Since you have more than one other chicken, I would keep her separated until she has healed, and then slowly introduce her. An antibiotic or disinfectant oitment or cream on her wound twice a day would be good to use. Do you have Savalon cream or a similar first aid cream?

Only isobetadine or burn cream like flammigel. Is it possible to only introduce her to Fluffy if i keep them separated? My niece didnt have something to give her to eat, it appeared to have been giving Bird seed, not sure if that's harmful? I suppose it means we cannot let her stay at night with the others? We have a separated section in the sleeping area with a wand for emergencies or hatchlings . Is it very infectious what she has?
