My 1st time Broody hen has hatched 4 of 6 eggs in the last 4 days. There are two eggs unhatched and she was still sitting on both of them. I go out to check on her a few times throughout the day (she's in a separate coop) but then I noticed sometimes she was off them both and since yesterday she's only been laying on 1. This morning I went out and she's now sitting on the other egg and has left the one she was sitting on last night.

Just wondering how long I should wait. I tried to candle them but was unsuccessful.

If it's been that long and they haven’t hatched, I doubt they will. Are they warm when you pick them up?

I only handled the one she wasn't laying on last night. I try not to disturb her too much and I didn't want to take them from underneath her.

This is the best I could get, she's off both eggs now though. Just wondering what happened.

An egg that died early can be about ready to explode by the time the others hatch. Getting rotten egg all over the hen and her new chicks is not pleasant for anybody involved. After it happens once you get wary of dragging out the hatching process too long.

So is that what looks like happened to these two?
