uninsured motorist totals our vehicle... (OP comments on page 4)

Well I had the same thing happen to me years ago. Two people in an old Trans-am with a baby on the lap. I was over as far as I could go and almost stopped. They were weaving back and forth (obvious alcohol or drug usage) they hit me hard. Ran all the way up on top of my hood then backed up and ran. State police finally caught them but No insurance, no nothing. My insurance had to pay for everything. Good luck, hope it works out for you.

I am not sure you states laws but here in CA if there is more than $600 in damage a certain form has to be filed with the DMV. If it isn't done, you lose your license.

Please get some insurance, if it had been the other way around, you would feel HORRID right now.

I don't think it is required in every state, and quite frankly, it CAN be VERY expensive, especially for younger male drivers.

I have insurance and I am old.

I lived in NYC, highest insurance rates in the country. You know what we did if we couldn't afford insurance? We walked, took the bus, or got a ride. I didn't have an extra $6000 a year to insure a car. I am so glad Texas is impounding uninsured drivers now. I am sick of being honest so other people can get away with bloody murder, literally.

u can sue all day long but probably if they didn't have insurance they probably don't have any money either. u can sue waist money on an attorney and never get a dime, even if they get a judgment place against them that's no guarantee that they will pay. Your state doesn't have laws about having pip/lib? That's crazy. U get ur license suspended in Fl for no insurance!

Our IL law is very strict and mandatory you must have insurance or risk losing your license for six months, fine and jail time if there isnt anything on your rap sheet.

There are alot of drivers here in IL that goes without insurance, so that is a good reason for liability or full coverage or add uninsured/underinsured coverage on your cars.

Even my van is paid off, I still have full coverage even it is not the wisest thing to do.

I have the fullest coverage I can get even though my car is 13 yrs old...I don't want some enterprising individual putting a lien on my home or anything else if they get sue-happy with me.

In Ga and FL you have to have insurance, here in GA if you do not carry it, your tag and/or license will be suspended , then you have to pay a fee to get it re-instated.
Another rule is, if you can't afford to replace your vehicle, carry full coverage and a low deductible. I have had too many people hit me that did not carry insurance and have learned the hard way.

Our vehicles are all paid for and the newest one is 11years old , the oldest is 18 years old, I can't afford to replace them or a payment so carrying full coverage is the cheapest route for me.

In Michigan we have no fault insurance on vehicles. I believe everyone has to have insurance of some sort, but you can choose how much/how little coverage you want. I have full coverage because I'm still paying for my vehicle.

What I'm learning from this thread is that the laws vary from state to state, so we can't apply our own rules to someone else who lives in another state. That said, it's probably better to have insurance and I feel really bad for the OP because it's going to be tougher now. I hope you can work something out. Hang in there!!
