Because a black sex link cockerel will always be barred. Unless there was some kind of genetic fluke, but I doubt it. Not sure what breed it could be but I am sure it is a cockerel.

Excuse me jumping in. I'm a newbie and no expert, but just wanted to say:

1. What a stunning bird and photograph!

2. This is probably a silly idea, but maybe you could try and "prompt" some crowing while you are there to observe? I sometimes play YouTube videos for my animals, and my grown rooster is very responsive to other crows within range.

I'd be willing to wager a lot that it's a male! (If I was local and you didn't need him, I'd be first in line to adopt, too!)
