Ahhh....see this is where you and he differ. It's all about being able to make the sale.
If you look at your birds you degraded their 'perceived value' by right off the bat calling them non-unique. Why no say something like "Stunning color!" You're not lying, and it's true.
People also value things that are valuable. If it's expensive then it must be valuable....right?!?! This is why brand names can get away with charging an arm and a leg for a t-shirt with the same amount of material in it as the bargain basement t-shirt.
If you place the starting bid really low, then they must not be as valuable as the mutt roos by the other seller....right?!?!
It's all about how you pitch the birds to the buyers. The other buyer has inferior birds, but a better sales pitch
I wouldn't buy them because I'm smart enough to know better, but what about the people who don't? All they see is unique, vs non-unique in the auction headings.
Just my 2 cents though

My listings contain just a little sarcasm. But the starting bid on the ee's was $10.00 for a pair, so my birds are worth more just going by the starting bid.
I was hoping to get some attention with my blatant use of the word "unique".
