Unknown Baby Bird found in Chicken Pen?

My husband found this baby in our chicken pen. We have a lot of trees around our house, but this little doesn't match up with any of the birds we see! Any ideas would be appreciated! Thank you!

For reference...my husband has very large hands so this is not a tiny bird!

That's a chick. Maybe a neighbor snuck it in your coop. Looks a good 4 weeks old. The other chickens were probably beating it up in your coop. You can quarantine and then make a little area for it where the other chickens can see but not touch until it's a little older.

Hmm....what color was the egg?

He didn't find an egg...just this little in the free range pen! He said it wasn't eating or drinking like a chick would, so he dipped its beaks into the water & a little while later, it was getting a drink!

Someone nights gotten it, changed their mind and stick it somewhere with older hens that would adopt it as their baby. Apparently that's a common misconception

I'm sure, my girls have been laying since the end of July and they were all in the coop when my husband found it!

It would be very strange for one of my neighbors to place it in our pen. We live in the country & everyone has chickens...maybe it got separated from a neighbor's hen that got to close to our pen!

Thank you everyone, I'm not at home & he sent me the pictures, so I just wasn't sure! We also wondered if it could be a baby Turkey? I've never kept them, so I didn't know!

Native wild bird species don't usually lay eggs in/nearby chicken coops but I am curious to find out what it is!
