I ordered 48 bantams (several different breeds) from Ideal. I got them on August 6th. Every single chick was alive and very robust. I ordered growgel and fixed it for them. I dipped every little beak in water, and watched them all eat.
They are all 6 weeks old now and thriving!

We ordered 20 from Meyer in August and all but one died. They replaced the order and we each added in a few more to split up between a few houses. We got them last week. As of today 14/31 are dead. There is something wrong!
What a terrible experience! It sounds like there are still problems with shipping chicks! Maybe I should have kept the poll open longer!

Are you several states away from Meyer or rather close? Just guessing by the “South” part of your handle, have you ever ordered from Ideal or Cackle?

I know the post office hates dealing with chicks. I think they actually shake the boxes sometimes to harm the chicks so we dont order again. The old postmaster used to bitch at me for ordering chicks and ask questions like... "how many times a year do you need to order chicks?" Or, "Can you please come pick up your noisy chicks?" They keep them in the air conditioned room and if they decide to deliver them the constant stop and go driving involved with postal delivery is ridiculously dangerous for day old chicks. I always instruct that I pick up my birds at the office. Definitely the best way. Postal workers are dumb as a stump about chicks....
If Post Office want to stay in business...THEY NEED to have intervention on their customer service and business plan. That is terrible response from management!

I think hatcheries need to persuade UPS to handle their business instead of the Post Office. Just like eBay.

I recently ordered chicks from Ideal on September 9th I chose Ideal as it is one of the closer large hatcheries to AZ. All chicks arrived healthy and are still doing well almost 3 weeks later. Only one problem--I ordered 30 and received 28. I am surprised by how well the chicks are handling the crazy high temps (over 100 degrees every day). I put them outside a week ago.
