Will it kill them no it won't, is it good for them not the best thing they can eat due to the sugar and ....
That being said yes chicken keeeping can be frustrating due to there being a lot of different options and opinions (want a heated debate talk about the use of DE, some say it will kill your chickens others say it keeps them healthier) there is not really one golden answer.
Collect the information given and use what fits your life and sounds logical to you.
I'm also new to chickens and trying to figure out the best way to raise them has been frustrating due to this same issue
