Aren’t these sweet! They do like to pile together don’t they? I mean, all that space but they’ve got to almost sit on each other

yeah, when I first move them from the brooder - wire floor - to the pen, I have to make sure they don't suffocate each other when they pile - before they figure out roosting.

Another unpopular opinion: it’s EXTREMELY annoying when people call their Buff Orps “Buffs” or “Buffies” or whatever. Orpingtons aren’t the only birds that come in buff you know.

I hated the idea of calling roosters roos and now I'm all for it. idk why that make me think of this.

Just because it's mix doesn't make it an EE

Right, when I put a single copy blue egg gene EE rooster with muffs and beard over pure Australorp hens, I wasn’t surprised to get offspring split for muffs and split for pea comb.

What I did get, after making more crosses and growing them out, was one copy of the blue egg gene, every time, with one copy of the pea comb.

So whether or not the EE had muffs, if it had a floppy or pea comb, i could trust that it inherited one or two copies of the blue egg gene.

So when I sold my extra EE hens that had no muffs, they’d be listed as what they were, “green egg layers.” And people wanted them.

But I agree, EEs should have boof just for the cuteness factor.

I think pea comb and blue eggs are connected because the whiting true blue have that. close loci I'd guess

Oh dear try not to gross out your egg customers with the truth. We know what it is but not everyone is ready to admit it even if they do eat eggs.
