UNPOPULAR OPINIONS! 🥴

I just don’t see any evidence resistance can be achieved through breeding.

It is such a common virus, that can lie dormant for years, be transmitted by wild birds, wind an so forth.

Those that claim to have resistant birds, in my opinion, simply have asymptotic birds that are actually shedding the virus like mad.

I really don’t care what others do, but I vaccinate and will continue too, if I ever hatch another bird.
To each 'their own', said the old lady as she kissed the cow!

I have actually never vaccinated my birds for mareks but I’m not opposed. The only birds I ever had that were vaccinated for mareks were Silkies from Alabama Silkies and I never had any issues with having them in my flock.

weeeelll... I’ve seen what a Texan thinks a Hereford should be too, and lets just say it’s “an interesting interpretation of Hereford” 😉

Credit where due though, the Santa Gertrudis I’ve been around have all been impressive, and they were developed in Texas
Yeah, but can you do this with a Gert?

I don’t know for sure one way or the other. I’m of the belief that all birds have or will be exposed to the virus. I don’t and have never vaccinated for Mareks and haven’t had any issues but I have gamefowl mostly. I’m not for or against it either way. I suppose if I had issues with it I would think harder on it.
I don’t ever worm my birds either though and some people would think I was crazy. The reality is it’s just not a problem for me. I do have to treat for lice and mites though.

Lol, i don’t know, it’d be a little further to the ground if it didn’t work out though

That’s great picture... my family ran polled Herefords for decades so we have lots of family pictures just like that, but with kids on them, lol
That calf was only 4 months old at the time of the pic!
