I don't have chickens so I can't speak from experience. I just see people all the time saying their rooster protects their hens and then they post this little fluffy thing and I'm thinking...
As if a fox is gonna say..

Roosters do alert the hens but they run right along side the hens when the sh*t hits the fan.
Good roosters spend more time scanning the surroundings they certainly don’t bust out a karate kid crane kick to the fox or raccoon that’s about to bite their head off.

Not exactly like that. But they do seem to pay closer attention to possible dangers. I’m learning to pick up on all the different sounds. I know my birds will head to their bush row in an instant when they hear the air predator alert. It’s really amazing. My two boys are pretty good sized birds, and of course my younger one stays a good distance away from his dad, so between the two they’ve got a pretty good area covered. And the hens/pullets listen to both the boys.
