UNPOPULAR OPINIONS! 🥴

Now there's an unpopular opinion.
I doubt roosters really do that much to protect your hens.
😂
Another "unpopular opinion," which is understandable. I have been blessed with great flock roosters who were fully committed to their hens. I have witnessed them warn and gather the hens under a bush and help them keep their heads cool while a hawk swooped right around them several times. They also sometimes face off with my "oh-so dangerous" cats and sometimes scare them off, and my current roo has faced off with my puppy three times his size who sneaked into the chicken pen (and could have been a real threat too).

I know that other roos aren't so reliable, but mine are and I love it!

Whether*

And why not both? :D
Guess that's true! Sometimes I wonder why they say all of us rednecks are in Alabama, have they been to Florida?? (Only in the Panhandle though, and some of Central...won't find many in Miami.)

And yep, I always get those two wrong! It's always those and you're and your sometimes (I have been spelling 'your welcome' all my life and realized like month ago )

Don't feel bad. I just recently learned how to spell donut.
I always thought it was doughnut. 🤷
I'm so confused... Which one is right?

LOL! There are definitely some rednecks here too :lau

Don’t feel bad about the spelling error. I do it too sometimes. I guess I felt the need to correct you. But I knew what you meant, so there was no need! My apologies.

1. Chickens that can't survive free range around predators should be culled unless they have a purpose as a pet in a cage, like domesticated parrots or finches.
the commercial broilers and production egg layers that feed the world should all go away as well 🙄

2. Along the lines of #1, the U.S. backyard chicken keeping culture and the concept of the Fort Knox coop has greatly damaged the free-range survivability of many breeds.
Many breeds lost “survivability” long before the current backyard chicken keeping trend started ... learn your agricultural history not to mention chicken keeping practices in other parts of the world and then realize that the shallow pool of thought you’ve applied to all of this is transparently self serving

3. Game breeds should be present on every farm that has the room to let them free range. I’m trying to think of one reason that I need some half wit in Florida telling me how to keep chickens on my place? Once I figure that out I can probably address rest of “every farm that has room” but golly that’s a lot of places to go tell folks to convince that they got do things your way because you said so

4. (Unpopular with gamefowl keepers), the tie and cord system is about as damaging to gamefowl as the coop system is for traditional duel purpose breeds. Gamefowl should generally be raised as they were 150 years ago, free range in the woods. Only a few individuals should be pulled off the flock and kept separate with limited mobility.
I don’t have enough knowledge of GF keeping to address this, but I’m starting to think you must subscribe to some extreme leftist type thinking because you seem to feel very strong that folks should do things just as you do

5. Eggs in an incubator should only be turned twice a day. Incubator? How unnatural... seems like a smart fella like you with expansive knowledge of chicken husbandry would be preaching to let the birds cook the eggs... or is this manifesto of yours not thought through all the way?

6. The poultry show standards of perfection sometimes do more harm than good by selecting for arbitrary traits that don't practically improve the breed. No argument from me on this, but at the same time if a chicken lady in Kansas wants to have tea parties and bubble baths with her birds and then go try and win a ribbon, it makes me no nevermind... It might not be your way of thinking, but I’m big on letting people do what they think they ought to do. I personally find it kinda cowardly and unamerican when someone thinks they need to tell everyone else how to think, act, or speak... but I’m just weird that way, lol

7. Chicken lives really don't matter in the grand scheme of things and there's few animals on earth more disposable than a chicken. Again I agree ... in fact I agree so much I’ll make you a deal, if you line all yours up and chop off their heads and post a picture, I pledge I’ll do exactly the same with every bird I have... and in fact I’ll go get some more and match you bird for bird if I run out. Or are you just making noise about all these brave new ideas you have ?

Anyone I haven't offended? I’m not offended by your opinions, but the general lack of depth of thought you’ve put in them offends my intelligence a little.
