Unsalted vs salted butter

My dad said that he and his siblings used to fight over who got to mix the little dye pack in the margarine bag.
I am old enough to remember that. We never used margarine, but a lot of our friends did.

Oleomargarine used to come in little plastic bags. It was white. It came with a little yellow dye pak that you broke into it. You squeezed the margarine in the bag to mix it. I am talking about the late 1940's or very early 1950's. I don't remember when margarine was packaged in cubes like butter because my family didn't use margarine, or oleo as it was often called.
